Liquid plastic on rings

I read an article a while back on using liquid plastic to help mount rings. The product was the stuff you paint on wires that dries to a plastic like insulation coating. It is used on the inside of the rings to helps secure the scope. The excess squeezes out and when it hardens it is supposed to really hold the scope. If you ever remove the scope it just peels off with no damage.


Has anyone had any first hand experience with this ?
 
Ring coating

Don't know"--liquid plastic--" but I--for years-- have coated rings with rubber cement for patching tire tubes---coat inside rings and let dry--- none have yet slipped and nothing to clean off scope when it's removed. Bent Barrel
 
It's just like using electrical tape on the inside of the rings to prevent damaging the scope tube, except that this stuff is liquid electrical tape.

I've read about this too, but don't have any first hand experience. The specific product that I've heard used is 3M Scotchkote:

I believe Scotchkote is a little different (perhaps harder) than Liquid Electrical Tape:

Anyways, if you google scotchkote and scope rings you'll find quite a few discussions about its use.
 
HAve also used rubber cement and electrician's tape. Both work fine. Or use the Burris "Signature" rings with the plastic inserts ... works great!
 
Never. All I put inside the rings is some rosin from a pitcher's rosin bag. I've never had a scope damaged or slip in the rings. I can't imagine slathering crap inside my rings or putting tape inside thwe rings. Buy good rings and make sure they're aligned properly and you'll never have a problem.
 
When I mounted the scope and Talley rings with flat bases on my rifle, I applied a very small amount of 5 min epoxy over release agent on all mating surfaces. I have not had reason to remove it yet but, I'm confident that with a little help from a heat gun it shouldn't be an issue. I can tell you it made for a very solid mount with absolutely no shift in POI.
