List your favourite underrated cartridges

Most of the rem cartridges as they suffer from extremely poor marketing. I like to be bit different so 5mm RM, 6mm Rem, 6.5RM, 8mm Mag, 257 bob, 280 rem. 350 RM. They all have spot at my place but still looking for a 350 RM.

I will stick with the unpopular cartridges like the 284win, 7mm wsm and 308norma as being underrated, not the popular cartridges that have been previously mentioned. jmo

My take on 6.5 creedmore. Its effectively a shory fat 260 rem, designed for target shooting, using its short length as an advantage over other 6.5 bores in that it allows magazine length seating of long vld projectiles. For hunting it joins 30 - 50 other calibers very capable of everything but the largest North American game. As a target caliber perhaps the only 6.5 comparable is 6.5-284. Like any centerfire the nut behind the trigger counts for more than cartridge design or rifle. Literally, one can buy a Nike driver, it doesnt buy talent, or make you Tiger Woods.

Couple of points on underrated calibers. One point is that as calibers are seen to wane factory ammo is hard to find. Cant get ammo, or a reloading only proposition. Poster child being 350 mag. The vast majority of firearms owners do not reload.

Then there is marketing hype and push. New flavors of the day or magnumitz. Examples are 6.5 creedmore over a half a dozen other 6.5 bores. The 375 ruger is a ballistic twin of the 375 h&h, again marketing hype. Having an action 2oz lighter is a mute point or even a negative.

This marketing hype has been going on for years. Examples. The 308 win is ballistically equivalent to a rimless 303, advantage being its not chambered in shot out Lee Enfields. How was the 264 win mag much of a real improvement on 270 win.

Anyways

25-06 still underated. I don't currently one one nor have I shot one but from all the reading I have done, it appears to be very effective. I am considering a deer only rifle in 25-06 for it's flat shooting, low recoil and hard hitting qualities.. Not much mention of it in this thread. What say you fellas that have experience with it?

I have a Sako AV 25-06, I thought it would be a perfect rifle for mule deer hunting, well I guess it could be but my rifle isn't my most accurate gun. I reload and have tried everything to get it to shoot consistently but eventually lost interest. I have a light weight 270 win thats a tac driver which I can load 110gr ttsx at 3400 -3500 fps if needed. The 270 win is a better all around cartridge imo, but nothing wrong with a 25-06 either.

303 British, I've been told numerous times to buy somthing new, why do you still use that antique! Kills what I point it at that's why especially with 215's
6.5x54 (or any 6.5 for that matter) it/they work well, I use a krag in x54 with a williams FP in the bush... I've seen other hunters and gotten odd looks for carrying that package.... But days gone by x54 was a fine round and was more popular/available then x55
