Lithgow Sht.le MKIII* - What is she worth?

Damn. I have a '43...the years of the largest production. :p

Doesn't matter much, it's a refurb anyway. But I'm still very pleased with it...

Mine was refurbed in '59. I don't mean to hijack the OP's thread but I'm wondering what the wood on it is. Can someone post a pic of Queensland maple as well as one of a Coachwood stock? I'd like to see if that helps me determine what wood is on mine. The butt looks like it's been replaced, but the wood appears to be of the same variety as the foreend which appears to be original.

The butt above is Queensland Maple. The photo doesn't pick it up well but it is a honey brown/orange colour with a fine lines of black grain. It looks almost three dimensional. The SMLE in the original post seems to be Coachwood. It is a uniform medium brown/orange colour with a very smooth grain.

I hope I don't go to hell for thread jacking...

Maybe it's maple...

I have the C.R ENFIELD 1918 ShtLE III*, shoots great, it is the exact same model has the pictures on page 1 of this topic.

it has the brass back plate with the brass door ....for the cleaning brush rope.

Your forend has the 2 threaded rods just behind the charger bridge, these were introduced into Lithgows WW2 production not long after switching from QM to Coachwood, so this is likely to be Coachwood, I'm not sure if any QM forends were retro-fitted with these rods, but certainly none of mine.
Need to see a close-up pic of the wood & any markings, if it has SLAZ over a date, you can almost certainly say Coachwood.

I'd say the foreend is coachwood then...shame it's all been sanded...and poorly at that. But that's definitely 'SLAZ' and below it's '55' I think.

The cartouche on the butt isn't clear. I think I see a '2' followed by '3', 'S' and then I can't read the bottom. Might be a 'T' at the very bottom.

I think I see an 'L' with '36' below.

Just an 'N' on this side.

This is a close up of the grain on the butt.
