Lithuania to acquire a new batch of modernized G36 rifles and 40 mm launchers

2016.08.29

The Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence has signed an agreement on procurement of another batch of automatic rifles G-36 procurement with German company Heckler & Koch GmbH.

The automatic rifles G-36 and under-barrel 40 mm HK269 grenade launchers Lithuania will acquire for the sum amounting to 12.5 million euros. All weapons are scheduled to be delivered to the Lithuanian Armed Forces in the course of 2017.

"By acquiring an additional batch of the G-36, the rifle well-known and having good recommendations among Lithuanian soldiers, we will want ro retain one type of weapon in the Lithuanian Armed Forces," the Lithuanian Minister of National Defence says.

The new weapons will be improved based on observations and recommendations made by the Lithuanian soldiers on the G-36 currently used in the Lithuanian Armed Forces. The buttstocks, handguards and sight rails on rifles will be modified and the updated weapon will be called as the G-36 KA4M1. The new 40 mm under-barrel grenade launchers HK269 will differ from the currently in use by the possibility to be charged by opening a barrel to both side ( the currently in use may opened to one side only) .

"Modernized" Doesn't eliminate the POI shift under high strings of fire I bet.

does it really matter?
by the time they will use those rifles 400 tanks would have rolled by
i dont know about you, but I see a tank coming im digging a really deep hole so that I can sit in it and poop my pants, hk or ak doesn't matter...

They can have there HK and poop their pants. Our Rangers have 6800 308 rifles, bring on the tanks.

Lithuania are donating the AK ammo to Ukraine. I presume the AK rifles will be next?!

TDM

No shortage of AKs, shortage of MGs is a different story. Shortage is so acute, they are using WW2 era Maxims for block-posts and thinking about getting RPDs out of storage.

But no ammo manufacturing plants left in the country. They had LCW ammo plant, but it is now located in Russian puppet state.

It is nice to see the Baltic States taking the Russian threat seriously :)

Russian threat my ass ...

Who's provoking who ? Who's setting up bases and amassing on who's border ? Who's the nationalist leader trying to build his country and who's the commie fa**ott destroying his and his people ?

If the Russians invaded all the g36's in the world would not stop them. Figure it this way, during the cold war the Russian planned on being at the English channel between 48-100 hours of out break of war. That would involve all NATO military's combined forces. What would one small country do when a Soviet mech division comes steamrolling across the border??

At this point in history if the Russians invade anything it's because they are provoked to do so. They also have every right to defend themselves from the obvious aggression currently being directed at them.

If nothing else, strong Baltic security forces prevents Russia from pulling a NATO and overthrowing or destabilizing them with a relatively small commitment of clandestine resources, which would then make the big and costly step of an overt invasion necessary.

God damn Israeli's pulling their crap again ..

Didn't Lithuania (& Estonia) each get 25,000+ M14's from the US in the late nineties?
Why the heck would they need these G36's id they've already got the second best
battle rifle ever devised (after the Garand, of course)? ;-)

The Russians may have 'planned' being at the English Channel in 48+ hours ... but the French werent exactly prepared to accommodate that plan. Their nuclear deterrent plan (contrary to what NATO may have wished) was to deal with the Soviet Forces .. and that pesky old neighbour, Germany - at the same time - and once and for all!

The Lithuanian's never had any doubt where they stood wrt the communists .... however they have now had 70+ years of Soviet /Russian presence ... now well embedded in their society; I dont know what kind or how much of an issue this represents. Perhaps those of Russian origin have fully adopted a new outlook??..
