Little Advice on Simple Press, Please.....

RCBS Rockchucker for me. I have been loading for 50 years, and have tried many presses. I could have saved some $$$ if I had of purchased the Rockchucker in the first place. Excellent results for everything from 22 Hornet to 458 Winchester magnum. I also like RCBS warranty policy. They make repairs, if needed no charge.

Why a different press when you turn??

I should turn some for you and see if it makes a difference in that DT of yours....would be an interesting experiment.

I don't see the point in turning brass until I get a custom barrel. Factory should be loose enough that I shouldn't need to turn. I doubt I'll see any return on the press or dies until I get into F-class or bench rest. I rather spend that time on practicing positional shooting. I'm OK with 1/2 moa ammo, which is what I'm producing with what I got. When I want 1/4 moa ammo I'll start neck turning and upgrading press and dies.

How do you co-ax users find the press for adjusting dies? It looks as though once set up it'd be awesome cause the die would remain set up. Just wondering how it compares to a standard o frame as far as making final adjustments with the die inside the frame like that. Really interested in that press as like the OP I'm looking for a new single stage. Thanks

It's great. Set and forget. I picked up a bunch of the Forster lock rings in a bulk pack.

Very handy for when I neck down brass in 2 steps as the shoulder bump stays set up with no drift. Makes it easy to change the bushing in the die as well.

However, it looks like Lee and Hornady have systems that allow you to set your dies up in inserts that should retain their settings. Haven't used them myself but interested if they work well.

Lee Breech lock challenger press for me... they have improved the casting material so the toggle part doesn't break.

I use it for all my match ammo. Once set up in the bushing, the dies goes back in repeatably

Works great for me.

PS, I hacked off the press primer plunger. Didn't like it and use a hand primer instead.

the coax makes sense to me because of the self centering case and die. Plus, no shellholder needed
I use the lee press for bullet sizing, depriming, etc...

To the OP, there are two ways to mitigate the problem you refer to with a turret press. One is to (if you are also using Lee dies with those confounded O-rings, hate em') remove the Orings and turn the locking ring upside down, they will lock as any RCBS or other die does and when adjusting or removing you just thread the die in or out of the ring, it doesn't grip the die body anymore so the ring doesn't need to spin with the die.

The other is the already mentioned using the "round" lock rings on all your dies, they don't interfere with the die beside them.

Don't sell your Classic Cast turret short, I have been loading for 45 yrs and used a lot of different presses from very modest to some of the best progressive's and will still own my turret when everything else has been sold.
