Little Badger... get a grip!

While it was not that hard for me to learn how to "pinch" hold my little badger and shoot it quite well, I always figured that little picatinny like rail behind the trigger meant the gun was destined to at some point get a grip option. I remember the first version that chiappa announced a couple years after they came out and it had to be the worst looking design I could have imagined!

Really?

Then a couple years ago the Chiappa distributor announced another pistol grip option that was huge and didn't allow the stock to fold in tight..... another fail in my opinion.

So when our very own Daver_II started producing 3D printed parts for the little badgers I was excited to follow along and watch his designs evolve... at some point I decided to contact him and ask if he had ever considered making a scaled down minimalist hand grip. I envisioned something that would allow a 2 finger grip with the pinky wrapping underneath similar to how most people grip a single action revolver.

He responded right away that it would be a fairly easy modification to his existing design and said he would give it a go, shortly after he sent me a rendition of the smaller design based on his original grip shape and he agreed to print one out for me to try.

The new grip arrived the other day along with a surplus full size grip so that I could compare them. I must say I think he nailed it with the new micro design! It's exactly what I had in mind, just enough to help support the hand a bit better when working the action and hammer and also give a more comfortable supported grip while firing.

I also prefer the look of the smaller grip and think it is in keeping with the original concept of the gun being lightweight and compact.

Here's some pictures of the 2 grip shapes, the larger white one I put on my .22lr mag and the micro went on my .22lr

Nice support with the hand moved forward to work the controls,

And still enough support when the hand is shifted back in the shooting position with 2 fingers strong and the pinky curling back into my palm beneath the grip.

I don't really see the Little Badger's being suited for high volumes of shooting as a range gun and even though it's quite accurate I would not pick it for target use either.....but for a lightweight grouse or hare gun while out hunting deer it's a pretty sweet unit.... and thanks to Dave mine just got a little sweeter!

Thanks Dave!

can be fixed easily with a dremel.

thanks for the pics. according to your pics, it seems the black grip is a tad small and the white is too large. i like the design of the black.

On a gun like this I prefer a more traditional grip where the thumb is better placed to work the hammer.
If I was interested in a pistol grip, I would just shorten that grip to a 2 finger size as well, it's not like a full grip is needed to handle the recoil. The other issue I see with that pistol grip is it looks like it's to close to the trigger and reminds me of the Aero Survival Rifle which to my finger feels a bit cramped and not the ideal length of pull for the trigger finger.

The fact that a more traditional grip looks better is just a bonus.... :) I wear size large work gloves and the smaller grip is perfect for my hands and grip position.

Both the large and small grip feel great to me, for my use of the gun a slightly smaller grip is preferable as it provides a noticeable improvement over the stock configuration, but adds minimal weight and as mentioned I prefer the more streamlined look of the micro grip.

Love the grip.

Also noticed your scope and mount. Is that the new ones that come with the little badger?

I got mine when it first came out so it was not an option then.

CGN User Daver_II made it for me and we agreed on a reasonable price. He has a couple threads about his badger accessories in this sub forum.

Regarding my scope it’s a POS $19.99 scope from Canadian tire but it had a dovetail rings so I got a mount adaptor from Amazon to Fit it all together.

Not sure if you are referring to my scope and mount or Archie's?

The mount I used is a cheap UTG cantilever I got off Amazon that no longer seems to be available, it works well and has a hollow riser so you can still see use the plastic sights underneath. Scope is a cheap 4X AIM/NC Star.

I was remarking on Archie's scope, as I have something that looks similar. The only difference is I had to bubba up a scope set up as it's an older bushnell custom 22 scope.

But I also like your set ups, and like you I have the 22lr and 22mag versions.

Love the grip, hopefully it becomes a regular product.

It really is a simple good design that makes a big difference in the feel and handling.
I have a few of those classic old rimfire scopes kicking around somewhere.... :)

Sorry for reviving an older thread. These small inline grips look great and address the ergonomic issues that the pistol grips have. Would love to buy one or two @Daver_II !!
