Recently I purchased a Chiappa little badger in .22lr

One thing I planned to do even before purchasing was to design a pistol grip, and as soon as I had the rifle in hand I knew that it would benefit from a grip.

I started by sketching out my design for the grip, and soon after had a hard copy of one side profile.

I live in a small basement suite so as far as wood working space/provisions go I am pretty limited.

I knew the grip would need to be made from hardwood, which is not something in abundance on this wet coast. I took a trip to the hardware store and purchased two oak boards. (would have preferred to cut the tree myself but alas)

I laminated together two pieces of wood cut from the same board. After the glue had dried, I traced my design onto a new piece of paper to preserve my original design. I cut out the trace and attached it to the laminated piece of wood, and cut a rough outline with a coping saw.

I then smoothed out the grip with a belt sander, and cut out the channel for the picatinny rail. I further slimmed the profile of the grip so that it would fit hands a little smaller than mine (I've got larger hands).

(before picatinny cut out)

(fully attached)

Now I do have final plans on how to attach it (not just pressure fitted as it is now) but I wont be revealing the details of my design (if you can figure it out congrats!)

As far as I know I am the first in North America to do this (which is pretty cool)

I will be staining it to a darker colour, but other than that its complete to my satisfaction.

Looks nice so far. How come you didn't just buy one? Wanted the pleasure of making one yourself?!?! I bought this one for mine.

Just waiting for it in the mail.

You should try design a fore end that would slide over the two side rails and lower rail but appear to be one piece. Rounded off like a Break Open Shotgun Fore end. They all blend into each other. That'd be cool.

Yours is a 72$ grip + shipping and taxes.
Also are you sure that the grip is going to fit the rail? As far as I know that's not a standard picatinny rail...

I have a grip that works on the front end but the two side rails need to be removed. My intention is to make oak strips that can replace the side picatinny rails but not interfere with the forward grip. I'll post pictures when I finish it.
The problem with a fore end like you've described is that I would have to charge way too much to make it unless I had a 3d printer.

here is mine, 1" dowel held in place with a screw into the gun tactically wrapped in electrical tape :) good thing is it still folds all the way, well more since i also modded the bottom rail so it can fold more.

not nearly as nice as yours, but still usable.

What thread pattern did you use?

Looks good and falls in line with the rigged look of the gun

sorry couldn't tell you, i looked through a bucket of random machine screws and don't have a thread gauge to tell.

just take the gun to the hardware store.. never mind wrong country.

nice work on the grips!

and am i missing something or don't we have a thread to show off our little badgers?

i really like this gun for its light weight, balance, accuracy, and ease of handling...it will fit in just fine here...

i want to keep mine as light as possible, but wanted a sling

scrounging through my parts boxes i came up with a pair of mounts from a junked sporterized mauser (geha) stock that i salvaged many years ago

the wire on the stock measured .237", so i removed the butt plate and the knurled region that holds in in place measure slightly larger...i opened the diametre of the mauser sling mounts to .250", slipped them in place and there you have it...simple, light weight...need a rail mount sling adapter and i'm up and running...

...just one solution
