Agreed. I guess the issue is "can I?" vs. "should I?". It would be reassuring to read SOMEONE say "yeah, it can be done...but I'd advise against it". Shooting (like most things) involves a little risk even if you do everything right. Why gamble you safety (or eyesight, or skin on your face, or fingers) by deviating from the data stamp on the barrel. Purposefully injecting a little risky behavior....to what end?

BTW, I'm not old...just cranky. In case anyone was still wondering.

.22lr is a heeled bullet, so the diameter of the case and bullet are the same (pull a bullet and you will see what i mean). .22 mag is more conventional in that the bullet is seated inside a larger diameter case. only real risk of shooting .22lr in a .22 mag is if pieces get lodged in the barrel that can cause over pressure. accuracy is another thing.

Today I received a call from Dante. They had receive the Chiappa 22 magnum Little Badger I ordered on july 4th ! Yeah ! I was vacationing, 100 miles away from Montreal, on my land in Quebec's eastern township. I dropped everything and went straight to Dante and back.

Expectedly, the Little Badger indeed shoots 22 mag rounds... The gun is so light that I felt the 22 mag "recoil" that my 9422M never displayed...

As for shooting 22lr I have just learned that I should not believe YouTube gun tests...


1 out of 5 22lr round will indeed fire in the 22 mag Little Badger and when it does it will hit a Coke can at 60 foot. Precise enough for my need if it could do so with reliability which is not the case at all.

Of course the 22 mag brass is larger so the 22lr has some wiggle room, loosing some expansion gases upon firing. The rim itself is also thicker on the 22 mag brass. That alone explain both the fail to fire and the touchiness of the ejector's position when loading...

Just plain doesn't work like I hoped it would...

While at Dante, I bought 100 Remington Subsonic 22lr for $ 12.95 vs $ 8.18 at Le Baron 2 years ago, 50 CCI V-Max 22 mag for $ 17.95 vs $ 13.85 for 50 Hornady 22 mag at Le Baron also 2 years ago. Winchester 333 were at $ 21.95, I bought 2.

Dante had many different 22lr, CC1, Lapua, Federal, Winchester, etc.


Now, should I stop believing in Santa Clause ?

Sorry for coming late to the party, Dominik, but I think you got a bad one.

My Little Badger makes all the .22 Short and Long go bang, accuracy is quite good, and the noise is quite minimal ... almost seems suppressed. The magnum kicks a little.

I shot dozens and dozens of .22 LR through mine, and not one failure to fire. I can believe that, at $189 / $199 retail, the quality control may not be the greatest. Mine shoots 22 LR reliably and accurately, and 22 WMR slightly more accurately and with a lot more noise.

Hmmm... As I also had a couple .22 mag failure to fire, I think you may be right.
Upon unpacking my Little Badger in .22 mag, I noticed that everything was quite stiff when compared to my Little Badger in .22 LR. I must say that I have done nothing to the magnum before shooting with it. No cleaning, no oiling it, no nothing... I was as negligent with the .22 LR and it always worked flawlessly...

I will do my very best to "unstiff" the magnum before shooting it again... I would love for mine to be shooting as well as yours...
My wife expects me to resell one of my 2 Little Badgers...
In the end, I hope that both Badgers will be keepers forever - just like my wife is...

Oh ! What a great ratio for keepers...
1 wife 2 Badgers...
1 wife 2 Winchesters 9422...
1 wife 2 CZs... Hmmm... I don't have 1 yet...

No regrets from me. I just put a Bushnell rds 25 on it today and took it out for some plinking....good times.
 
So I took the time to open up the .22 mag Little Badger. After cleaning it, I filled the parts for better action and gun greased every thing. The opening action is much smoother now but shooting .22 LR it still doesn't like...

I exchanged the complete barrels both ways, .22 mag for .22 LR and vice versa. . 22 mag and .22 LR works great with their prescribed ammo but still no .22 LR shooting in the .22 mag. I now suspect that Chiappa has made some changes on the newer .22 mag Little Badger to specialy forbid shooting .22 LR in it...

If your .22 mag Little Badger shoots .22 LR with no fuss, it's a keeper !
My brand new greased Chiappa Little Badger .22 mag is now for sale...
