Live fire test on Swedish S Tank

Great tank it was, however I'm not sure why it's regarded as "tank" in the first place.

Its layout and intended purpose resemble more of a Hetzer or even STUG SPG more than anything else.

Fascinating video. WTF is a shockwave tunnel? That was pretty interesting. I'm pretty excited to see how these things get used in clan wars in WoT when they get introduced in a couple of months.

The Swiss tank crews don't seem to be affected by anything. They laugh at the minor spalling of multiple HEAT crew compartment penetrations. Half a ton of napalm is just a warm cosy feeling for these men. Nobody wants to invade Switzerland.

Like saying that nobody want to rob your own bank. Lol.

It was a very well designed vehicle that rightly thought from tactical needs backwards to design. However the totally fixed gun was I think a triumph of doctrine or engineering fetish over common sense: a vehicle that becomes useless if immobilized is a poor investment.

Of course those were the days before reactive armour, but it does remind you that low profile/concealability, speed and maneuverability are the most important aspect of AFV survivability.

When I was in Stockholm I visited the army museum and they explained that these tanks did not need a turret because their doctrine was to form a "wall" of such tanks to play a strictly defensive role. They would line them up to fire at advancing russian tanks. That being their requirement, a turret was not needed since they would not fire on the move. And it makes the tank lower. The armour is concentrated on the front as well.
