Im thinkin' about buying an AG42 and have a couple random questions about it.

Where in Ontario can i find one?
What is the usual asking price?
Are they a fairly reliable rifle?
Is the 6.5 swedish suitable for deer?
And lastly, if anyone has any pics...please post

Thanks for the help!!

Try Ellwood Epps, but the best place to look will be in the exchange forum on this board.
They usually go for $200-$300
They are quite reliable and accurate, but fussy about ammo.
6.5 is a very good deer cartridge, works on Moose too.

No pic at the moment. My advice is to look at a Swedish Mauser. Extremely reliable and even more accurate than the AG42. Plus bolt actions are better anyway.

here is mine....

The bluing on mine wasn't all that great because of rust. It is very acurate i've got a group of 4 within an inch and a half with it but im sure it could do better.

-Post a Wanted to Buy on the equipment exchange.
-Anywhere from $150 to $400 - it all depends ....
-Yes and no. They have a queer (queer strange, not queer fruity) cocking mechanism. Flip a latch on the rear of the receiver, then push the receiver cover forward and backwards, and then it trips itself forward to lock. The other thing, is they seem quite ammunition sensitive. Not just any ammo will make them cycle reliably, and give good accuracy. Speaking of which, the backsight is a heckuva long ways away from your eyeball.
-The 6.5 is wholy underrated by the majority of gunwriters we read in Canada. It is a big fast cartridge with superb 300m ballistics. The Swedes are enthousiastic moose hunters (they call them elk); and they rely on the Six Five.
-Google Images to your heart's content.

Caution!

ALWAYS, I repeat, ALWAYS put the safety on before trying anything around and inside the loading port such as when loading the magazine with stripper clips.
When shooting and the last round ejection trips the hold-open latch, make sure (in that order)
1- you put the safety on.
2- you push slightly on the carrier cover until you hear it latch on the carrier block and feel the assembly can slide freely.

Now you can push rounds through the action into the magazine with a loaded stripper clip. If you prefer, you can also get the magazine out of the rifle and close the action. For this, with the magazine out, just push the carrier cover (still latched to the carrier and breechblock assembly) fully to the front.
Now, while keeping a firm grasp of the carrier cover, push with your thumb on the latch you see at the rear of the assembly; you'll feel the spring tension. Just let the carrier cover slowly slide back and abut against the safety block at the rear.
That way is the only correct way of releasing the mainspring tension in the Ljungman's action. Putting the safety at OFF and letting the bolt slam home without any rounds in the magazine is plain wrong.
BTW, you can dry fire the Ljungman to release tension on the hammer spring; it is designed for that.
If you always do that, you'll never be a member of the "Ljungman Thumb Select Club" and I can tell you it beats the Garand Thumb. Only the Hakim can be nastier.

Right on!! Thanks for all the help, pics and operating procedures.
This site and its members are a wealth of information!
Just two more questions.

Would the AG42B have a hard time digesting factory hunting rounds such as Winchester or Federal?

How long does it usually take to gain access to the exchange forums? I sent a request for a membership but nothin' has happened yet. Do they send an email or what?

Thanks again guys, i appreciate the help!!

Usually in a day or so. To see if you have access, just try to access the groups. If they appear--you're in!

My cousin got one that destroys brass, too. not a good thing if you reload(which you will want to cuz 6.5 isn't cheap!), but I don't know if they all do that...

I wonder if your cousin has the rubber roller that attaches to the bolt carrier. They are often missing.,

I find a FMJ bullet works better in the AG42 rather than the hunting soft points. I find that it just feeds better.
As for the brass it gets torn by the extractor and usually bent on the way out by the chamber or the deflector(rubber roller) then flung far far away. I'll guess that its flung so far away to prevent the soldier's trench from filling up with brass.

Did some one call my name?

It's really reliable. I've never had mine jam. I've used mine on Caribou and moose so Deer are nothing for it.

Pics? How bout a whole web site? Click the link in my signiture

Accurate Semi's

Hi if you want a SEMI that will kick a$$ this is the one they are very accurate. You can always find a gunsmith that can work on the ejection and soften it up. I do my own ( thats not for everyone), they can be made adjustable. Using reload ammunition is the best, however that takes a bit, as brass must be full length resized to slide into the chamber with NO RESISTANCE ( this is very important as a stuck case, partially chambered round in these SEMI'S presents a dangerous situation) NEVER try to force a stuck round into the chamber using the bolt, you may have a SLAMM FIRE. Please read up on these before using one. Bill.

Hey guys read this... :)

Ljungman Gas block adjuster modification

http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/post/surplusrifle/vpost?id=328794

That's pretty cool. Though you just gotta find/load the right round for it. Mine would beat the hell out of the brass on alot of different brands of ammo. I finally started useing BELL ammo and no more probs. My AG42B loves the cheap stuff:D If your a reloader, then just find the right load. I sugest fast burning powder.

On a side note, I'm amazed how many AG42B owners don't know that the rear site has a two setting (one for pointed bullets, one for round nose). For some messed up reason, my rifle will shoot hight with BELL pointed ammo when the sire is set to pointed, but will be dead on when the site is set to round nose. It's FUBAR, but somehow I guess BELL sp's preform like the milsurm round nose rounds

Factory 6.5 would be a bit hot, in my experience. Real nice rifle to handle and shoot and when you get the ammo right, very accurate. As far as I know the Swedes used to reload for these rifles.
