Ljungmann optics?

When quick cleaning my newly acquired Ljungmann (thanks Kmorse!) I noticed three tapped holes in the left wall side, just under the wood line.
They look original and I suspect there's at least another one further to the rear but I haven't pulled the wood off yet.
Interesting; it looks like the Ljungmann designers had the idea of enabling some or all of these rifles for future fitting with an optical aiming device.
Is there mention somewhere of that possibility?
I'll take pics of it as soon as I get the wood off.
PP. :)

All the AG /42's I've owned have the same tapped holes on the left side - I agree with you for their reason - unfortunately no factory scope mount has ever been found....

That's a very interesting thing to dig.
What would be great would be the unearthing of designer's plans or descriptions of the rifle before or after the first field trials. Maybe we'd find proof of the idea or drawings.

This pic is interesting. Still don't know who makes it though.

There's a local guy here who made a nice custom mount for his that looks very similar to the one pictured above. His rifle shoots great too although I don't remember his scope eye piece being quite as far back as that one above is. I'd be wondering about cartridge cases continually smacking the scope though as they are ejected with quite the velocity in a Ljungman! GRIN I have had several of those rifles over the years and have one still, but it's been many years since I fired it. I do remember the brass getting tossed a LONG ways away.

Ljungman Mount

The easiest mount to do. I have found a shotgun side mount complete with rail will work. I have one made up but haven't used it yet. It will require a spacer at the mounting point and some wood removed (I'm hesitating because of the stock mod). The mount is all aluminum, nice and lite. Bill

Chopping wood...

Russian detachable sidemount should work fine. They sell untapped mounting base blanks to adapt the mount to the rifle.
Now, to test that, I'll have to find a wrecked Ljungmann with a good stock so I can whittle away without remorse...
I'm pretty sure that marriage would be a real OUCH! for the history conscious collectors! but that strange offspring would certainly give us something to talk about.;)

The holes I'm talking about are at the magwell level so that a sidemount would be ideally situated ahead of the carrier cover and would not interfere with its actuation.
Only thing, I really don't want to mess up a perfect original stock to try mounting a scope on the rifle. I'll have to find a replacement stock to alter. The soviet removable mount looks like a very solid and adaptable option.

Judging by the picture I'd say one would also need charging handle on the right side added, those two "bulbs" aren't good enough if one of them is behind scope mount.

By the way, I am bubba'ing mine whenever I get time. It will be something very custom stock Veslo-ish looking and of course there will be PSP scope. The way it goes I don't expect to even start the project until late fall so don't ask for pictures - at this point its just another "intention".

Try to contact/google some Swedish Gunnuts.
Since many are ex military I'm sure they will have some ideas for you.

I knew one Swede off ebay last year that had all sorts of good info, but I have lost contact with him after the ebay nazis turned up the heat over firearms parts.
