Just got back from the local gun shop. He has a used llama 1911 commander length, single stack, blued in excellent shape. It has adjustable sights, external extractor, and a like new buffer. The only issue is it has no mag. We threw a colt mag into it and it works fine. He wants $400.00 with gouge and screw tax included. I may get it for my dad so he can come shooting pistols with me. Is this a fair price? He also has a stainless colt gov't 80 with a few scratches on it. vIt looks like the previous owner took a screwdriver to the slide lock and scratched the frame. Othewise the gun is spotless for $800.00 I may have to get the old man to fork over the extra for it instead.

I understand that the exchange is good and won't get into detail about why not. I just would like to know if this is a good price. I'nve bought from this guy before and he is fairly honest but even he admits that he does not know a whole lot about it. I've held and felt this gun and like the build quality. I also looked on the exchange and nothing in particular caught my fancy.
Llama parts are not interchangeable with standard 1911's. For that reason alone, I would not buy it. If you are set on it, don't pay more then the Nork commanders go for, $350 new, because at least they are made to standard 1911 specs.
As far as the colt for $800......I would pass. Colt is the biggest rip in the industry. They are bare bones models, no features, and no better finished then any of the competition. You pay for the Colt name.....

Thanks hitzy. I thought there migh be some issues considering the slide has an external extractor.I have the norc commander but my old man doesn't like the parkerized finish. I think I am just going to keep looking.
Personally, I'd pass on the Llama. I'd only consider one if it was in the $250 [total] range - that's about all they are worth. Only part compatible with a 'real' 1911 is the magazine. But you already know that.
Hitzy is right about Colts... You pay a lot for the name. I wouldn't pay $800 for a scratched up stainless Series 80. Hell, the only Series 80 Colt I'd buy would be a Delta Elite 10mm or a Govt 9mm. For a Colt in 45ACP it has to be a pre-Series '80 before I'd bite. For $800 it would have to be in nice condition, too.

C'mon Billy, that's a little too harsh. I look at the big frame Llama like a disposable shirt. You wear it once & you don't even have to wash it. Just throw it out. I'd take a Llama .45, cheap, like in the $200-$250 range total. If I got one I just shoot the 'you know what' out of it. And when it broke I'd part it out.

That all said... I know severa people who have owned Llama's in .22lr that were little scaled down copies of the 1911. They apparently shot "like a house on fire". Don't know much about the little Llama .32's... but then if you left any gun outside for "several months" in the elements I suspect you'd almost never be able to make it serviceable again. Rust plays havoc on the fine threads of gun screws & such...
The first 45 I had was a Llama. I got it new for $225.00. It ran OK for about 2000 rds. and then started to have problems. The gunsmith that sold it to me told me to get ride of it, that it was worn out. I traded it to him for a beat-up x military 1911A1. Put the repair money into this handgun and shot it for 5 years without any problems. As above, pass on this handgun. You can do better for the money you want to spend. If Gunner at Armco has one of his "tuned" Norc. 1911's you would be better off.

I wouldn't have the patience for that! I've been down the Llama road and ain't goin' back!
