I just agreed to buy a Llama .45 form a person listing it on the "Firearms Canada" web site. I've sent him a MO and all my info.(lol! He didn't know what an EMT was... so I sent a Money Order) And now I wait... and plan:redface:

I guess I should have asked these questions first but it was a situation where he had a deal fall through, and I was first of 5 on the call back list. He sent some pics, it seems to be in good shape, he states that is in working order. The pics he sent were ok, if little blurry, but all in all I only paid $325.00 including shipping.

Included in the sale is the pistol and 1 mag.

I guess my questions at this point are...

-What is the approximate value of this pistol?
-Are all 1911 mags inter-changeable?
-Are all 1911 type guns parts inter-changeable? ie: can parts from a Norc, or Para, Springfiel, Kimber or Colt fit and work on this Pistol?
-I understand that these were a Spanish made pistol, t or f?
-What info should I look for about upgrades & or parts to have on hand?
-What should I look for in regards to condiditon when it gets here?

Any and all info on this would be greatly appreciated.

And PLEASE keep this under your hat.... I haven't told the little woman yet:D

Here are the pics he sent

Thanks in advance!

My first pistol was a Llama IX-A in .45ACP. I bought it in Fredericton about 25 years ago for about that same price. (Holy Crap, was it that long ago) Anyway I loved it but...

The spur on the hammer broke off for no apparent reason after about a year. It was easy enough to replace when I got a new one at Jason's in Ottawa. I found that the mags from my friends Colt would not fit properly and the Llama mags were $45-50 each at that time. I was a little gun shy (pun intended) to invest in aftermarket parts after that. I didn't want to buy stuff that wouldn't fit.

The pistol itself had a good feel to it and was much more accurate than I was. I am looking for another .45 but it might be a M&P this time.

Well so far I've found out that:

-I paid about the right amount for this Llama
-Pretty much any 1911 mag will fit
-Yes it is of Spanish manufacture
-It is a 1911, so most parts should fit

No, it's not a 1911. It's a 1911 look-a-like. Doubt you will find many real deal 1911 parts that will "fit". But you did okay on price. Some 1911 mags might fit/work with it.

For $325 I would've spend a few more bucks and got one of the new Norc 1911's from Can-Am for $349 [+ applicable tax]. The Norc is a 'real' 1911 ;)

My XI-B in .45 didn't like the Wilson mags from my "real" 1911 but it fed fine with the 1911's steel factory mag. It is what it is, I wouldn't spend much time trying to change over to 1911 parts - shoot it and enjoy it.

If funds permit grab one of the latest Norcs in .45 - I think they're going to be the next 10/22 as far as owner "pimping" goes.

I've had one for 30 years and have about 12,000 rounds through it with no problems. 1911 mags fit, nothing else (except recoil springs) unless you get lucky. I like mine, it is accurate and reliable although some were definitely not.

those mags are pretty much a hit or miss affair -even within the same manufacturer- i've got some south american nickel that work just fine, the blued ones don't and i paid like 10 bucks a piece - as far as getting parts goes, you may or may not get lucky- esp with the extractor- while it's easy to replace, finding one may be a differnt story
