Since the Galil & R4 Are Prohibited in Canada (AK47 variants), the LM4 would also be prohibited.

SKBY.

Who knows now that the Libs are out. I have fired an LM4 and 5, as well as an R1, R4, R5 and R6 in South Africa on a couple of occasions. The R series are just a fantastic rifle and I prefer them to the AR series, although the mag release on the AR is better.

R5 is my favourite, but the R4 is good if you are shooting past 400m and is better for competition IMHO. The nice thing is that you can use the long, strong 35 round mags as a rest which you cannot on the AR family.

Ooohhh rats!
I would love to get myself one and have the old man shoot it.
He was issued a R1 first but later in his national service he says they got the R4.

I've always been wondering, as my dad was in the South African Airforce, what the R-series are copies of. Could someone please inform me?

Thanks,

Hey Gunplumberr,

How was it that the R5 was captured? Are you talking about captured from criminals or from soldiers? As far as I know the rifle was not widely exported so if it was captured in one of SA's African conflicts I would be interested...

It was taken off a Somali "farmer/herder"

not the best pic of it in the upper middle of the pic......and the red on the rifles isn't rust its red dust......as most know....there are more weapons floating around Africa...that R5 could have come from anywhere, could have been picked up in Angola then just filtered to the Horn of africa...all I know is I shot the crap out of it :D and I wish I had it in my Galil collection

Funny story a buddy of mine used to be in the SA reserve (komando) anyway he had a R5 and we got drunk one night and decided to go spotlight some bunnys, something pretty common in SA we usually shot them with .22lr's we get to the farm and old Willem takes out the R5 no one knew he had it with him we figuted it was a .22 in his gun bag.

So being young drunk and dumb we see a bunny, he aims for the longest time and eventually let her have it fires of the whole mag. and only clips the rabbits ####in' ear!!
Someone els (more sober) killed it with a .22 in the end.
Well to this day we give him #### about his shooting (what if it was a terr)
