LMT 10.5's rock

well I know he hadn't removed the barrel, so it would have had to have come from the factory messed up.

After mulling over it a bit more, one thing that I did not check was if the barrel was properly aligned. That quick change feature of the MRP barrel adds another possible problem area. Yanking it all apart and putting it back together and torquing everything back into place would be worth doing.

Mike alot of the MRPs arent torqued right from the factory, at least this was my experience and I have heard some others say this as well. Recheck the bolts and see if they are abit lose. The other issue with the MRP is it is possible to put the gas tube in upside down :p, this makes it a nice single shot...

Not my gun either, but I took a few stabs at it.

It's something on the front end.
I ran some zippy LE 5.56 though it, different buffer, different bolt carrier assembly. There is not enough gas making it to the carrier to cycle the action completely. The bolt is coming back enough to reset the trigger, but not far enough to eject the fired casing. The gas tube seemed aligned.
It probably didn't help that the owner had not cleaned it at all prior to shooting it.

My guess based on all of the existing info is chamber - either mungy still from an improper cleaning or rough, but more likely clogged up, causing a hard, delayed extraction that is acting as a short stroke.

These things only go back into place within 'spec'...there is very little room for 'operator error'.
Torque on the barrel screws will make no difference to the problem as stated.
All of my LMT's ......MRP....regular carbine...they all work flawlessly.
I would stop f**king around and return it.
If it's a complete rifle, LMT will sort it out......

I don't think it ever managed to eject and feed the next round once. I know that it ejected some times, but never fed.

Or the gas port is way small. This is a new upper?

I know the Gas Ports on 10.5" barrels are quite large.
It should be >0.080"

Sounds like you ruled out everything else.
Good luck.

It isn't your AR but nevertheless suggest to your fellow range shooter not to experiment further. The mere fact its not shooting like a "new" gun he should be aware there is such a thing as warranty.
Although all us CGN'rs would like to help solve it online through this forum, ROTTBOY & GREENTIPS have the best solutions, searching for the problem and trying to fix a BRAND NEW GUN could be better handled by the staff at the LMT factory or the selling dealer.
This particular LMT seems problematic and messed up by the factory. Maybe us LMT owner's should start thinking of selling them before the word gets out???? In my case - NOT!!! LOL!!!!

I'll be keeping my LMTs. And maybe adding to them in time. Too bad about this bad apple, but I'm sure he'll get it sorted out.

Wow, I like the lectures. Really I do. No seriously really I do.
Actually.......

Ok so let's see if it were my gun I'd fiddle with it before sending back. Why? Because it may be something simple and I wouldn't be very happy with the time involved sending it back for warrant work. And I don't think he will be either. If it ends up needing to go back go LMT that's even longer. So yeah trying to figure it out here makes sense to me.

Forgot to ask, what kind of buffer/buffer spring you running?

I had problems cycling on a 10.5" when I had a Wolff+XP spring and tungsten buffer installed; I swapped in a generic buffer and spring and all was well.

It's all good - no one answered my last question as to if it was the most recent 10.5 sold from questar or not, but I was going to buy it till it disappeared off their website :p

I really do want a 10.5 LMT though, looks like Q is unable to bring any SBR in for the time being due to an export ban in the US
