LMT or Noveske???

Both are way better than you need....For a fact LMT stainless MRP barrel and Noveskes polygonal rifling barrels are both made by “others”. Looks like is cheaper to buy good parts than to make them. I have both and other than bragging rights AR platform should not be more than 1k. 223/5.56 is cheap but that’s it. To get something out of an AR you need to reload. A 600 bucks Tikka will out shoot any 3k AR. The MRP can go from 18” to 16", 14.5”,12.5” piston and 10.5” by just removing 2 bolts. Remember is not cheap or easy to find but even other calibers are available.....just a add money game. The more you add the more you play. Noveske has a good toy also. Only after you outspend the carbine in reloading stuff or factory ammo you realize that other than the barrel, all that aluminum forge, cast, machined...etc can be a cheap Aero piece or a 2k brand name.....
Get the cheaper one (except you picked some of the most expensive ones) and make sure all the bling you get after does not get to be more that the gun
Cheers

I see that either way you want a monolithic upper.

I have an 16" MRP and a 16" Noveske (but it's a different model than the one you want). They are both great rifles, both function flawlessly and both are accurate for offhand shooting.... I haven't shot either off the bench or actually measured the groups.

I find the MRP ever so slightly front heavy, where as the Noveske (Reece) just has the perfect balance for me.

Like others have pointed out, on the MRP has other barrel lengths available and it is just a few minutes to swap them.

It's really too bad that you can't fondle both of them together. You can probably easily find someone with a MRP, but I don't think there are too many of the Noveskes with the monolithic Vltor around.

One other thing that doesn't matter either way, is I really find Vltor uppers ugly. I just don't like the way they designed the case deflector... but hey, others may love it.

Vltor VIS is 2 pieces brazed together is it not? Not a true Monolithic like the LMT.

Vltor VIS also has it's own proprietary barrel nut and proprietary barrel nut wrench.

The Cold Hammer Forged barrel is a PO-TAY-TOE / PO-TA-TOW argument

Someone mentioned the difference in thickness.
Here is a pic.

The only other problem I see is that the LMT is WAY overpriced. The LMT is about $600 USD cheaper, but Questar sells them for the same price as the Noveske. LMT is $1850 USD vs. Noveske $2450 USD. (does it cost $600 more to import a LMT?)...And NO SIGHTS!

If you can import the LMT Yourself. I would go with the LMT. If you are stuck on buying from Questar, go with the Noveske. Better deal dollar for dollar.
I don't think you could import a Noveske any cheaper than Questar sells them for. But you can save hundreds getting the LMT yourself...and it will have sights.

Interesting, I knew the VIS bottom half of the rail is easily removed to provide access to their odd castellated barrel nut and to mount an M203 if desired. The MRP is not, IIRC, M203 compatible - but who cares really?

I didn't notice that the VIS upper was two pieces brazed together - it certainly isn't obvious in-hand and functionally probably does not matter. Evidently, current production VIS uppers are machined from a 7075 forging (they used to be billet if anyone cares? But the looks are identical as they are basically fully machined) and the rail is now 6013-T6 instead of the 6061T6 they used to be. Not sure why. I suspect the receiver portion is machined from forgings now because 7075 really shines when forged but is a PITA to machine from billet for no discernible benefit other than being able to market it as a "billet upper".

Bottom line though, the brazing will be better than threaded-together pieces and it's likely to be just as rigid as a one-piece part like the MRP upper. I would't let that solely change my choice.

Noveske does market the VIS as being a sort of "quick removal" barrel system. I would not agree with that. The bbl nut design is effective, but nowhere near as easy to install and remove as an MRP barrel swap. If I bought a VIS Noveske, it would be for only one calibre. Your mileage may vary.

I have had several Noveske's...just sold my 14.5" on the EE...and faced the same dilemma that drives your choice...i.e. 16" gun, go to to go to the US.
The Noveske, although very well made, doesn't add a lot over the LMT MRP I decided to keep.
The LMT has three barrels....10.5", 14.5", and 16", and should cover all eventualities.

Do what I did....get a KAS SR15...
After I had handled, and shot a friend's unit, I concluded that the KAC, in my opinion, represents the 'pinnacle' of the evolution of the DI based AR's.
The cost is within what you had budgeted, and I don't think that you would regret it.
Mine is currently inbound from OST, and I'm currently loading up some 77SMK in preparation for it's arrival.
Having owned...and shot...the LMT MRP and Noveske side by side...I kept the more versatile MRP.
But, if I were in your position, it would be KAC...all the way!

KAC = awesome gun. The SR15E3 is probably the one you'd be looking at.

Only bad thing to say about it is that it's expensive and will blow past your $3000 budget after tax and shipping :(

You could buy just the upper for about $2K though and go with a less expensive lower?

Personally, I'd like an SR-25, but cannot justify $7000 for a restricted .308 ;)

SR-15A3 all the way, for 14.5 or 16 inch barrel config, it is an amazingly well balanced rifle, and as mentioned it is the pinnacle of the DI system so far. I went with the Noveske upper in 10.5 because i needed a shorty and could not justify another 16inch length AR at the time. But eventually I would like to get another 16 inch upper and the SR-15 is on my must have list.

Correct me if I am wrong please but the Knight's one does not have a monolithic upper correct?

Hard to tell by this picture. Althought it is in the price range and I do like that lower alot. Are the barrels on this guy on the same level as Noveske? Also this rail system does look like LMT's and don't the LMT's ship with there rail cover's?
Looks like I might be getting the KAC SR-15 then. Dam you guy's like foxbat & Leibermuster.
The only thing that was holding me back before on the Noveske was that I thought that there uppers we ugly just like Darren stated but then everyone braggs about there barrels.

Sounds like you will be enjoying the KAC Koolaid if its in stock
I don't believe that the KAC rifle has the monolithic upper like the LMT
They use there own hand guard rail system.

The forearm is modular (not monolithic), but it's well integrated and I seriously doubt it performs any worse than the monolithic offerings you are looking at.

By the way Satain, your pics shows an SR16. The SR15 is a later iteration of the rifle and arguably an improvement over it. Unprecedented level of ambidextrous and ergo controls as well. VERY nice.

Satain, if you want to see the LMT MRP, or the even nicer LMT MWS .308 then we can make it happen. I have the export version of the MRP but the stock has been converted to how it should be. The only real difference is it's not threaded and doesn't have a flash hider. Along with being chambered in 223. It will still give you an idea of what it's like before buying one.
