Is the coating just a paint, like automotive paint? Or is it a bake on/plating ?

It's a spray-on/oven-cure process (Cerakote-H). Ironically, the high-heat application (Cerakote-C) is an spray-on/air-cure process.

Took you seven years to post but what a post! Awesome job, I love cerakote, this is a norc 1911 with federal brown and graphite black I did: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=743389. Next project will be a norc AR with JP Handguard in federal brown then a 7" AR in tungsten.

So far what Patrick has quoted me, after tax - $180 (paint job) + $70 (shipping to Alberta & back)
Very cheap compared to all the other canadian cerakote finishers. One guy wanted $300 + tax + shipping!
Just fired it this weekend. The cerakote is really slick!

As for that funky charging handle. I am left handed, bought 3 of them at the 2011 shot show. They work perfect for southpaws.

Just an FYI for everyone, Patrick doesn't take anything apart. he degreases and prepares the surface for painting, then paints. Thats it!
