the 6.5x55 would be ideal. Its accurate, speed, and power to drop anything from deer to moose and elk. with a well placed shot. low recoil. I go out and shoot over 2 boxes and not even the smallest bruise.
What sort of game and what sort of range(numbers needed"a good distance" isn't enough), are you looking for a model of rifle or a cartridge?
deer/cyote
distance...bettween 10 yards and 300 yards
A few yrs ago I re-barreled a 700 action into a 257Roberts. It fits ALL the requirements you list and has become my favourite rifle.im woundering what would be a good/cheap(under 700) hunting rifle that dose not have a lot of recoil and would have a good distance of range aswell as accurcate?....and it would have to be bolt action
I vote for a 308 Winchester. Recoil is easily as low as the 270win (almost seems a bit lower, to my subjective experience), but with the right load, it's very comfortably big enough to use for anything on this continent (yes, even big bears; just use a heavy, tough bullet, and keep the range inside 200 yards). Oh, and 308 Winchester ammo is available anywhere ammo is sold, and is usually the cheapest ammo going outside of 30-30.
