I've read a number of posts which talk about picking up a few pieces of range brass to get your annealer calibrated with the tempilac, so you do not have to waste any of your good brass. I just finished annealing my first batch of brass and applied tempilac to 2 pieces. They look completely usable to me, but wondering if the residue might have any unintended consequences when mixed with powder? Hoping someone with experience can educate me.

You'll want to clean your brass after annealing anyway so your fine.

Using range scrap for testing IS AN ABSOLUTLE WASTE OF YOUR TIME. You might as well use the colour change technique.
