"...better rounds yourself than you can buy..." Yep. Factory ammo is not only expensive, it's generic too. Every rifle or handgun will prefer a particular load. Reloading lets you tailor the ammo for your rifle or handgun. In the case of a .303, the barrels vary in diameter. They can be as large as .315" and still be considered ok. Factory ammo uses .311" or .312" diameter bullets. Not good accuracy out of a .314" barrel.
"...had to use that dipper..." No you didn't. You could and should have bought a scale. The dippers can vary the powder charge plus or minus a full grain. A scale fixes that.
