load data 280 ross

Hi Everyone
Purchased a 280 ross a year or so back and i am trying to develop some ammo for it .I am to the point now where i have everything in place the brass the bullets powder primer,what i need now is some reloading data,pouder amounts and bullet weight etc.Any help would be appreciated

I was told that some ppl have used 7mmRemMag start loads minus 5%. That's what I plan to do.

The .280 Ross holds 78 grains of water, the 7mm RM almost 82. The best way to work up loads is by using 7X61 Sharpe & Hart loads (which holds 75 grains of H2O).
Ackley's book is a very good source, there were articles written here and there in the past, like Handloader #45 (Sept 1973).
Here are their max. loads;

140 grains / IMR 4064 / 60.0 gr / 3200 fps
140 grains / IMR 3031 / 57.0 gr / 3050 fps
160 grains / IMR 4350 / 64. 0 gr / 3050 fps

28 inches tube, M-10

These figures seem pretty high to my liking, this might be from the powder changes over time.
I run mine at lower pressure, say mid-loads for the 7X61 S&H, makes the brass last longer.

Don't know what you plan to use for bullets but if you have a good bore start with the easy to obtain .284 diameter. These actually outperform the .287 160 gr Woodleighs in my rifle.
I ended preferring 154 gr Interbonds in .284.
JIm Foral also did an article on the Ross with some data and tips.
7x61 Sharpe & Hart is closer than 7mm mag data.

Mine doesn't shoot the .284 bullets. Best option for me today is to buy Woodleigh .287" bullets.

Woodleigh are certainly a quality bullet. The .284" bullets were giving sub 2" groups at 100 yards. I figured Woodleigh were the dream but no joy in my rifle just opened up the groups.
