I recently got some Nosler 220gr and Berger 230 gr match bullets and now I need a starting place to work up some loads. All contributions gratefully accepted. Thanks.

I'm running 44 grains of reloader 22
and I think varget is about the same
im running a mag fed and must run standard bullet length
and im not running a hot load

Those seem to very heavy bullets for a .308. What is your twist rate of the barrel. I have found 150 gr to 180 gr shoot best from my .308 under 44 gr of varget.

I have an 8 twist on it right now. I bought the blank as a practice barrel before I tried machining a Shilen. It doesn't seem to like surplus ammo or my standby loads with 168 MK's, so I decided to try these for the hell of it.

Because of my mag I'm restricted to 2.750
and im only running 155 amax
im using a military style rifle set with 155 to match ball weight ammo
mid you have room in you mag and chamber find your lands in your rifle .
seat a bullet 3/4 the way out of the of the casing with no primer and powder
make sure you have enough of the bullet in the neck of the casing
use a black felt marker Color tip of the bullet black
cycle the round in your gun
look very close look for marks on the brass that would be your lands
once you find your lands repeat process and seat bullet .010 th deeper each time
this way you will find were your lands stop and start
on my 264 im seated .020 into the lands
on my 308 because of my mag I'm not touching the lands

I would agree most I here guys going is 190
and 1:8 twist im using on a 140 sst
try some 150 find the lands try .010 in then .020 into the lands
what powder are you using

i was goin to have a few 220gr projies to try in the 308 but the producer didn't really wanna give them to me yet as he said its very close to max pressures of the cartridge.

it can work an use a heavy bullet load an back off a fair few grains, apart form that I don't have any details for you.

let us know how you go!

Too big for a .308. OAL will be too long for a bolt actions mag. There are some 220 grain loads on Reloader's Nest though. Guy used a Ruger 77.

Yup I think u will find that the concensus is 220 gr for a 308 is too heavy. Better suited for 300 win mag. I use 150gr hornady btsp in my .308 and 180gr in my 300 wsm
