Hey my hunting partner Mike recently bought a Weatherby vangaurd in .22-250 so now we both have .22-250's and we like to shoot alot so it was time to get into reloads.

We decided to pick up a reloading kit some power and bullets today and would like to start working up some loads first loads will be 55gr Moly coated VMAX's over Varget powder.

I was going to start the load off at 34gr's of varget under the vmax bullet and work up to 36.5grs anyone have experience with this combo any words of advice or proven loads that we can start with?...

The second load will be Barnes 45gr X-bullet over varget as well? unless there is a better powder to use AA2520 or RL15?.

We are going to match the length of our loads to a factory 55gr sp seeing as both our rifles shoot factory ammo sub MOA this will save us adjusting the dies for each rifle.

so any info on loading the 55gr vmax's and 45gr X's would be great!

I shoot the nekkid 50gr V-Max in my 22-250 with Varget, Benchmark and H4895. I have dropped gophers at 435yds (measured with a rangefinder) with my Varget load.

If you are shooting Moly bullets, you will probably have to bump your load to match non-moly velocities.

Since every rifle will shoot differently, someone elses load may/may not work well in your gun. Best to load up a bunch and head to the range.

I would load up the following:

5 X 34grns - Foulers
10 X 34grns - Groups
10 X 34.5
10 X 35
10 X 35.5
10 X 36
10 X 36.5

Shoot the 5 foulers into a target or berm then start with 5 of the 10 - 34grn loads
Shooting a group of 5 of each of the loads working up to the max load while checking for pressure signs.
If one or two of the loads prints a particularly nice group, shoot the remaining 5 of those loads to see if you can duplicate the group. Or shoot another string of 5 shot groups going from 34 - 36.5 again and compare the 2 targets to see which load most came close to being the same.

Thanks for the info

So we spent the day yesterday setting up the loading equipment and learning to use it all....

We made 6 rounds with 34.5gr varget under the 55gr vmax

We went out and ranged 100yds then each of us shot 3 loads out of our rifles.....

My first 3 rounds out of my Savage predator 1:12twist were ok 2 holes touching and one flyer(which was my fault) that was about 1" right and 1" low.

My buddies first 3 rounds out of his weatherby vangaurd 1:14twist ended up with a group being about 2''....

We decided to go up to 35gr varget and what a difference it made my 3 rounds were a clover leaf measuring aprox 7/8'' and my buddies group was a tad tighter around 3/4''......needless to say we loaded another 3 and it shot the same as the first set with 35gr so we proceeded to load a few boxes.....

Total cost per 20 rounds is $9 not bad when a compairable factory load is nearly $30/box.......

We are still waiting on the TSX's

Try 36grs IMR4064 with the 55gr bullets.

This is the most accurate load I have ever found for my 22-250.
