Load development?....who needs it?

A few months ago I acquired this Sako L461 in 222 with a pitted chamber and bore. I had a 12" twist Gaillard barrel sitting here for 2 or 3 years that I had bought off the EE.
So, I put the two together, chambered it in 223 and sighted it in with factory WW whitebox ammo and got 5 shot groups under an inch. It now wears a Leupold VariX-II 4-12AO.
Then I decided I should try the handloads I had loaded for my 700 223 about 5 years ago. A 40 gr VMax over some H335. This was the result. Load development finished...:)
Particularly nice because I have about 300 rounds loaded.

I have a 700 "Classic" in 222 Remington. 50 V-Max and 23.5 grains of old Reloder 12 fired by a Remington 6½ Primer is the ticket.
[although it shoots many loads sub-moa]
I have frequently shot ¼moa 5 shot groups with this rifle, and the Columbia Ground squirrels just hate it, lol.

The 222 is an all-time favorite of mine....I do not even own a 223 at present, despite all the bargain ammo floating around.

Take a cartridge and particular bullet, choose one of the powders that produces the highest velocity with that combination in your favourite manual (read most efficient in that application) and load straight ammo. To the jump or lack thereof that barrel likes. Done.

Or just shoot a rifle like that, even easier!! :)
