What is your process for load development? Do you focus on finding the most accurate charge first then adjust c.o.a.l?
In the past what I've done is find the max overall length to the lands then back off about 10-15 thou play with different charges in .5 grain increases from the min. Then played with length from there
Is there a better way?

thats what I do.................

some doe the ladder test........some load for velocity and kiss accuracy goodbye.......
 
Also what I do, except for VLDs which are another can of worms... However, you should increase powder charge by less than .5 grain increments IMO. In a smaller case like .223, you could be completely skipping over an "accuracy" node.
 
I use the ladder test with some of my rifles. Works well if you can keep track of what bullet hole is what. Even at 200 or 300 yards it's tough to tell sometimes when you hit an accuracy node and your shots start to stack up. If the rifle sprays bullets all over the paper to begin with this testing method is useless I find. But usually it's effective and saves time and components. Try to find a bullet seating depth where a change in powder charge either up or down from your pet load will not affect the point of impact. That way when ambient conditions change with temp, humidity, press, etc, etc your load tune won't suffer as much and preform how it did that day at the bench when you found it.
