I'm trying to find target loads for .32 Ideal in a Stevens 44 1/2 using 150gr. cast.
I have used 12g. 4198 and 7g Trail boss.
Case capacity is 28.76 gr water and is rimmed straight wall.

Can I use Lyman Cowboy Action load data for 44 S&W Special (case capacity 29.61 gr water, rimmed straight wall, 205g cast)

I'd like to try 2400 13.3g, Unique 7g, SR 4759 13.2g.
Can I increase the published loads due to the lighter (150g) bullet?
Thanks for any help.

The answer appears to be yes.
I tried them Sat. and all performed well.
No need to increase the load as they all had a good punch.

In the Cartridges of the world by Frank Barnes 12grs of IMR 4198 and a 150 cast gives 1330fps and 596 ft lbs. energy.I have BP data if you want it let me know.In Ken Waters "Pet Loads" a 115castsized .323" Lyman mold #32359 with 4.5 gr of Unique was recommended ....no velocity given. As you know cases formed from sized 32-20 left FL,bullet seated out and fire formed. Thanks mbogo3
CofW is where I got the original 12g of 4198 info. It leaves lots of powder behind. I used the "formula" to figure the load for Trail Boss.
The Unique, 2400 and 4759 all did very well. 4.5g Unique would be pretty light load. I used 7g and will back it to 6g in future for plinking.
I don't think this was ever meant as a BP cartrige being developed in 1903ish.
I have Bertram .32 IDEAL brass but I shot ten factory 7.62 Nagant pistol ctgs and they formed very well although a little shorter than originals and a couple of the bullets (0.314") acually hit the target at 100m!! LOL
