load for drg bullets

i have some lead flat top 225 grain 45 acp bullets. I am having a tough time finding a recipie for this bullet

Can somebody suggest a nice begginers load for this? I reload with hp38 and unique, use wlp winchester primers and winchester brass
 
I shoot them in my norc commander using unique. I couldn't find specific load info for the DRG 225g FP bullet so I used 225g RN #452374 loads from the Lyman 48th manual.

Unique:5.5gr - 695fps start. 7.3gr - 905fps max

I was loading 6.3gr in mixed cases with WLP and getting 875-900fps. I would work up a load on the cautious side as my results were hotter than the loading manual predicted for a 225g bullet.

I'm switching to W231 as my 9mm unique loads didn't feed well through my progressive press and I want to use one powder for all my pistol loading. I found unique was quite dirty as a pistol powder as well ( not that w231 is much better...).

6.0 gr unique is also my load choice for .45 loads with drg bullets. Has worked well with 200 gr SWC's and 175 gr SWC's.

Have not reloaded the 225 gr FP's yet but will most likely try 6.0 unique as well

As for OAL, take out your barrel and make one cartridge at slightly higher OAL.
Try the bullet in the barrel, and if it doesnt sit in the chamber like a factory cartridge, reduce OAL until it does.
Also check to see if that OAL will fit in your mag.

Probably the biggest limitting factor, right here. For my 1911, I load to about 1.200". My glock I can go as long as 1.275 with no issues. Seeing as I only want to worry about one length, I just use the 1.200" for everything.
