Load my 3006

I've got some Hornady 155gr AMAX and IMR4895.
Been looking around the net for some starting points.
I thought I would start around 41gr and go up in .5gr increments to 50gr or so.
Is this reasonable? Open to suggestions.
I have only iron sights so range is limited to 100yds if that.
Just paper punching no hunting so I have no need of maximum loads, or recoil, or barrel wear. I think this Husky has a 1:12 twist but I haven't checked for sure yet.

Powder charge

I would agree to start in the lower 40's with 50 maxing out. Most loads I have read about are at the 46 to 50 for that weight of bullet, so you are right in the ball park. When ever I am in doubt, I go to the Hodgdon web site and they have great load tables for many calibers for their powder, IMR and Winchester.

Hornady does not list this powder in their .30-06 data for 150/155gr. But by comparing data from several other manuals and bullet weights (150-168gr) I would totally agree with HIGHRPM's recommendation and would not hesitate to use it in my rifles with the 155gr A-max.

I once loaded a deer load of 150 grain bullets in the low range that you mention and it was not an accurate load. It took more of the IMR 4895 I was using to give it acceptable accuracy.
Hodgdon's on line show a minimum of 50 grains of IMR 4895 with 155 grain bullets and a full load of 53.8 grains.

I loaded from 41 to 44.5 and ran out of powder.
So H4831 - do you think 50 grains is a bit high for a starting point?

As I pointed out, 50 grains is the, according to Hodgdon's on line data.
The loads shown as minimum is the usual beginning point.
