she pushes 250 grain bullets out at just over 3000FPS, the cartridge on the left is the big bad ass of the crowd, right next to the 7mm Rem Mag and 30,06.

Does that mean Barnes Solids are too? 'Coz I thought a lot of those mono solids are really great for minimising pelt damage and maximising penetration.

- Dave.

non expanding bullets are illegal for hunting game in BC, as are tracers, explosive, armor piercing, etc

I'm glad that group is at 300, I was kind of wondering. Nice shooting BTW especially with a fixed 6. I take it that is a 6mm Rem, or is that the 243 you were out chasing yotes with earlier this year?

142gr, 6.5cal

260 Remington, 142 grain Sierra

Im testing 140 grain A-Max tommorow, I think they might give me more expansion on grizzly :D

todbartell,

Amax no good!!

Have seen them bounce off eyeballs of charging grizzlee before....really! 22 is proven to work better on world class grizz.

You need more firepower and your scope looks a bit small for 300 yards. Mine has 1300 Moa.

The mighty Nylon has a cumulative firepower of 3060 pounds of energy when I use stingers.....Its what you need.

'Sides, if the bear gets too close Ya just prang him over the head!

Ya gota look close ta see thu machine!

I heard if you take a hacksaw and carve on the tips of those Match Kings they are serious bear medicine. I think the 6.5 might be too much gun for Big bears... you may blow his head clean off?
I am glad to hear Gatehouse is gonna be backing you up.... your meth addiction could affect your long range shooting.
Good luck... I'm serious.

Now this brings up an interesting question. Are cast lead bullets legal to hunt big game with? If so, in the eyes of the bureaucrats who over see such things, what would be the difference between the cast lead bullet and a monolithic solid as they are both monometal bullets? A large caliber hard cast rifle rifle bullet does not upset at 2100, and neither does the mono-solid.

This is another one of those "looks good on paper" regulations that doesn't take into consideration all the different aspects of what it is trying to control.

Sorta like our "Bison" cartridge law..It's legal to hunt Bison with a 7mmRUM and a highly frangible 175gr bullet, but it woudl be illegal to do so with a 30-06 and 165gr X bullets...

Well the Laws here certainly can't cover every little thing (as Gate pointed out) if they did our Huntings Regs would look like a Phonebook !;)

The Law was to prevent "Full Metal jacketed, non expanding" Army surplus type ammo.
If the spirit of the law is followed...No worries:)

Now I'm off to load up some 30 grain Bergers for the 17 Remmie and go chase some Black Bears:wave:

My friends cousins dad said......... If you knew what you where talking about you would know that bolt cutter are the proper tool for turning match bullets or fmj's into hunting bullets.

Snip, Snip. Perfect 30deg bear-claw style point.

:D :D :p
