lads

Got myself a goodly pile of Imperia/ Dominion once fired 222 brass and thought I would dediicate it to 55gr bullets.
i am some Berger 55 gr andsome Vmax 55gr, and some TNT 50gr bullets to work with.
Any of you fellas have a powder combination other than 4198, which I have never had any luck with.

Thanks FS

FS; Try W748 or Vihtavuori N133. Both work great in my 222 with 53 and 55 grain pills.
IIRC, I used the Remington 7½ primer and 24.8 grains of W748 in a R-P case.
Would have to look up the VV load. Dave.

wonderful dave, I do have both of these powders, and many others as well. thank you sir.

try using 50 grain flat based bullets with 20-21 grains of 4198. the 50-55 grain bullets do not shoot well from my 222 either. Most 222 are 1-12 or 1-14 twist so do not spin a longer bullet fast enough to stabilize them well.

24gr Varget with 55gr bulk Hornady FB SP is what I load for my 222, best load I've found.

Win brass /24gr of win 748/mag primer /55gr Hornady SP a dozen Wt's and three black bear in Ontario loaded for my dad.One per customer.

The most accurate load out of my 700 CDL was with H322, CCIBR4 primer and 55gr Sierra Game kings... Cant recall exact Velocity or Charge but believe they were close to 3000 or 3050.. They worked very well on coyotes, crows, groundhogs out to 300 yards and if I did my part at the bench 5 would be in 1 hole ittly bitty hole. This load shot equally as well in my CZ527 Lux as well. H322 is my go to powder in the 222 for anything 40gr to 55gr pills.

.222Rem with 55gr bullets get good accuracy with almost any medium burning rate powder. I've had good success with H4198, H322, H335, H4895. The Hornady 55gr VMAX works really well in my .222 Sako Vixen with any of the powders I mentioned.

Any powder recommendations other than 4198? I suggest that your rifle may prefer bullets lighter ( shorter) than 55 grain for best accuracy. The .222 is a wonderful cartridge capable of extreme accuracy, but some .222 rifles only want to shoot short/light bullets. H and IMR 4198 are considered among the very best powders for this cartridge for a good reason. They almost always work well. I'd suggest you try some of the powders /loads suggested above. If happy, all's good! If not, try shorter/lighter bullets.
