Hi,

Has anyone loaded for 32 special using 30-30 brass? I've been able to source 30-30 brass a lot easier than 32 special, I've read it's been done but looking for some first hand experience? I don't have a 30-30 lever so won't have to worry about mixing things up. Do I just run the brass through the sizing die and seat? Hoping I could as I love shooting my lever (been watching to much Yellowstone LOL) and it's impossible to find factory 32 special.

Thanks in advance

I have done just what you asked about, sizing 30-30 brass with a .32 WS die. Lube the inside of the neck a bit extra and you should be good. Lots of 30-30 ammo has been fired from .32 WS rifles, but that's not what I am recommending.

I would suggest flaring the neck a bit with a tapered punch before running it into the die and over the expanding button. Just to ease the passage as the neck is sized up.

I do this as well. 32 Sp is .321, 30-30 is .308, so you are only going up .013 in diameter.
I anneal the case necks before running them through the die, but it's not entirely necessary.

Zero issues.
I'm also making fairly easy shooting loads with powder coated cast so I have no idea if a full power load work hardens the brass or not.

Thanks guys..does anyone have a load recipe using H4350 or IMR4350? I have a bunch of Speer 170gr bullets to use.

A slightly compressed load of imr4350 under a 170 gr usually gives excellent accuracy but too slow burning to realize the max velocity, around 2000fps if I remember right with about 37gr. I don't think you could fit enough 4350 in a case to run into any pressure issues in 32 special.

Speer data shows 35-37gr imr4350 with the 170gr hotcor. 37gr shows 1961fps in their rifle.
I've used a compressed load of imr4350 & a good crimp in quite a few cartridges in which it would be too slow burning to get optimum velocity's & still got very good accuracy despite being inefficient in those cartridges, 30-30, 32 special, 250sav, 300sav, 303, 308 ect. 20years ago I got lots of imr4350 for cheap and used it in just about every rifle cartridge I loaded for.

I'm using H4895 in mine under a Speer 170 HotCor. Works well. I'd have to look in my notes to see what speed I'm getting, but around 2200 seems to ring a bell in the old memory.

I've used 30-30 brass to reload for 32 WS, 32-40 and 38-55. Annealed the front part and went slow. Extra care with 38-55; lube the whole outer case and deep in the neck and go slow, a little at a time.
