loading 338-06

picking up a Rem 7400 that has been rebarrelled to 338-06

want to work up some rounds to try it out,

anyone have any good loads using resized 30-06 brass? that they think a semi would like?

whats your faverite recipe for 338-06?

Also to add, when im looking at die sets some are marked 338-06 A-Square and some are not, a google search turned up many dissucssions on the subject and most people seemed to agree that mixing brass and die sets between the A-Square and Standard causes no problems, the difference is apparetly a 1/2 degree shoulder angle change.

anyone have any experience or thoughts on this?

Using 30-06 brass is quick, easy, and cheaper than using Norma or Nosler cases with the "proper" headstamp.

338-06 A-Square & 338-06 are the same thing.

i find any 200 grn with varget and 225ab or ib with imr 4350 to work well. my loads are a little warm to post. both those powders have worked well for me.

I love the 338-06.

You can make up the brass with one pass of your sizing die, just use lots of lube on the inside of the neck. Also, if you can, make it up from new or once fired brass. Even if it is only once fired, reanneal it anyway and it will go as smooth as warm butter.

You will have to trim the necks for concentricity of length and because the mouths won't be true.

My favorite load is 59.5 grains of W760, over CCI 250 Magnum primers, under a 225 grain Hornady Interlock. Very accurate in my Ruger No 1 and my Mod 70 Win. Chronies at 2625 fps.

This load is close to maximum, so be careful and start a grain or two less in your rifle.

If I were told I could only have one rifle, chambered for one cartridge, the 338-06 would be it. Other than that, the 6.5x55 will do yeoman's service as well.

thanks for the replies guys, im going to take your advice and buy both powders mentioned in the above posts and some 200 grains and heavier bullets.
