loading 38-55 WIN

The .38-55 isn't as unusual as it used to be. Epp's lists the brass. They likely have bullets too. Shooter's Choice, in Waterloo, likely has both as well. Goble's, in London and Tillsonburg, lists brass. $28.50 per 50 for Winchester brass. Most likely have bullets too.
I have some data, but data isn't hard to find either. There's cast bullet data on Hodgdon's site.

If your loading for a Winny 94 chances are your bore is MUCH larger than .375.
Brass can be easily made by "blowing out" 30-30 cases. Ken Waters fav hunting load for the 38-55 Win is 35gns of 3031 behind a 255 gn bullet for a velocity of 1800fps. It is also my fav load only I substitute Horn 220gn flat nose & a couple more gns of powder. I use a 38-55 for deer hunting but mine is a Sav 1899 which do use .375 bores :dancingbanana:
 
WSS has .379 cast and Barnes 255gr .377 dia I'd sugest getting a mold Lee makes a 250gr .379 for around $20 complete with handles....................Harold
 
oversize bore

I was wondering if anyone was using bullets bigger than .375. A friend of mine reloads his with .377, barnes I believe. Sounds like a bullet mould is the way to go. My rifle is an old Marlin 1893.

mbogo3, is WSS wholesale sports? If so do you know what the product# is for
Barnes 255gr .377 dia ?
 
Some 38/55s have bores as large as .382" , such as the Uberti replica lowwall i once had, smaller dia. bullets would just keyhole and be very inaccurate.
 
Try not sizing the bullets load e'm and shoot e'm as cast.Should be .380 or better..I also have a lyman 375296 which is a 265gr GC..............Harold
