Just wanted to see what was recommended for loading pistol and rifle ammo. I had a lee single stage but was told by my local gun store it was crap. Turret vs single stage? I need some advise. My rifle would be a .264 win mag so I need something that could handle a belted magnum. I have a 357 vaquero and a g21.

Methinks your Lee will do the job just fine. If it breaks - some tools do break, name and color notwithstanding - you might want to consider springing for a more costly replacement, but IMHO, your local gun store just wants to sell you stuff you don't need.

Sure, some kind of progressive will load more rounds per hour, but any reputable - Lee is reputable - press will crank out quality ammo if the operator does his part.

If you are new to reloading, first things first by a reloading manual and read it. I would start off with a single stage press and learn the ropes that way

The only thing cheap about a Lee press is the price. Have used a turret press for years ,loading many calibers. It works!!!!!!! Your local gunshop person telling you that your press is crap,,,, perhaps needs some more experiance in the reloading world, and in customer relations.
 
Just to add as a newer reloader : single stage lee press was a great start and I still have It mounted. Just got a used turret press and starting to learn it.

A reloading manual and a single stage lee press are a great start.

Another vote for the Lee being perfectly good for OP. It will turn out ammo that is as good as any other.

I have the Lee Classic Turret Press with the 4 hole plates. I load everything from 9mm Makarov up to .338 Win Mag with it, with no problems through 3000+ rounds. There is enough head room to load any of the 3.600" OAL rounds such as .375H&H and the RUM cartridges, your .264 Win Mag will present no problems at all.

Your local gun store told you your Lee was crap to try to get you to buy another press from them.

The sad thing is, this kind of crap creates brand snobbery when some people believe it.

Learn to use your Lee well and enjoy the saved money. If you are new, there are plenty of videos on Lee's website, or you just read and reread the instructions and get anything clarified here that you want.
 
That's being an uninformed brand snob, the Lee press will load fantastic 38sp. I know this because I loaded thousands of rounds of highly accurate ammo on my turret press. My single stage was a good press as well
