Has anyone loaded this cartridge with this powder (D-2015)? 400 Gr Snover bullet. I regularly shoot this bullet with 20 grs of D-5744 with great success. I also shoot BP in this cartridge as well
Your thoughts are invited.

I been watching for someone to reply since you posted this.
The accurate data shows reduced loads for the 45-70 using AA2015. But where should you start is the question, if it can be used.
Maybe call Accurate, but they'd probably not care for your D2015 purchase.

Here is their reply:

We have no data for the 40-65 cartridge with that powder.
Here's the data from our Hodgdon website with our other powders.

The message goes on to list 9 powders, all Hodgdon's, suitable for the 40-65 and a 400 gr bullet.

BTW: 2015 is mid way between IMR 4198 & IMR 3031 in burning rate.

I have never shot smokeless in my .40-65's but might give it a try before too long. A few people on the ASSRA forum have mentioned H-4227 giving excellent accuracy at 200 yds with a 400gr bullet. Nice to see on the Hodgdon site that they also recommend it. It's the powder I've been using in my .32-40's and .38-55's with excellent results.

Chris.

They didn't put much effort into that. Looks like Hodgdon isn't really interested in maintaining the Accurate powder line.

Do you know anyone with Quickload?

I don't know what max pressure is for 40-65 cartridge, Quickload doesn't have it and SAAMI doesn't list it in my reference.
Calculation is based on Accurate A2015 so needs to adjusted to D2015. Also keep in mind QL pressure estimates can be 10-15% off if inputs aren't calibrated.

Barrel length 25".

I went to the range today with my 40-65 Hiwall. I loaded 10 rounds of ammo with 28 grs of D-2015 and CCI primers and topped it with a 400 gr. Snover bullet. I fired 2 5-shot groups and the results are less than impressive! Both groups averaging 6-7 inches. I won't post the targets!! I'm not giving up. Now that I know I can use this powder I will run more tests. Shout out to Jethunter for providing the info for this powder. More to come!!!
