Loading 40-65 with D-2015

I went to the range today with my 40-65 Hiwall. I loaded 10 rounds of ammo with 28 grs of D-2015 and CCI primers and topped it with a 400 gr. Snover bullet. I fired 2 5-shot groups and the results are less than impressive! Both groups averaging 6-7 inches. I won't post the targets!! I'm not giving up. Now that I know I can use this powder I will run more tests. Shout out to Jethunter for providing the info for this powder. More to come!!!

Following your load development with interest. I've been at the loading bench with the only powder I could find and no load data a couple times. Several times been working on cartridges for which no data of any sort was available too.

Of the loads you fired how did they shoot besides accuracy? Sooty cases or sealed up nice? Did they feel comparable to your other loads?

Looking forward to hearing about additional testing.

2015 is slow for that application, might find it doesn't get better.

I've shot some of my best 40-65 groups with the Snover bullet and IMR 4895, but, you might be right! More testing required.

Dominion Arms suggests reducing your load by 10% and work up. I did not do that, I just went with the starting load. The load sealed well, no soot on the cases. I was shooting both smokeless and BP on that day, so I can't comment on how the load felt. I will pay more attention next time. I'm testing some new lube this week with the 40-65, then back to testing D2015

Your load was already reduced below a normal starting load pressure, wouldn't need to reduce further.

I went to the range this morning with the 40-65 and 7 loads of 3 rounds ea, 27 rounds total, starting at 29 grs of D-2015 increasing by 1/2 gr. to 33.0 grs. This cartridge does not like this powder!!!
These were the two best groups!

This was the worst one!!!

3 shots....never touched the paper!!

The other targets were somewhere between the "best" & the worst!
