Has anyone done this and with what results. I cant foresee a problem with this as there's a difference of .296" in case length
and a small adjustment in die height is all that's needed.

Although I do not reload this particular calibre I would think it would still size the case enough to hold the bullet and make good ammo.

A slight neck resizing in a Lee Loader works just as good as the Full Length dies for my .45-70

I use a set of 45-70 RCBS dies to reload for my 45-90. To compensate for the extra length of the 45-90, I put two .257 diameter bullets under the lock ring (one on each side) and it works just fine for me. This saves me the adjustment of the die when I change caliber because I am lazy!

45-70 F/L dies work with 45-90 with careful adjustment, but I bought the Lyman Neck Sizer Die. It works for 45-70, 45-90 and 45-100 and is not expensive.

You want to neck size anyways - this die only works the top 1/3 of the case, and is easier on the expensive 45-90 brass.
