Loading 9mm luger with Hodgdon cfe223 pistol powder

I just loaded a sh!tload of 9mm 124 grain LRN with 4.8 grains of CFE Pistol. about 10% below max. Also, Loading 5.2 behind 124 plated RN

OAL 1.110

I haven't tried it yet (just got some yesterday), but I've heard good things about CFE Pistol. Clean burning seems to be the biggest feature.

I've been using CFE Pistol a fair bit recently; for Campro 124gn projectiles 4.8/4.9gns seems to work best for me (1.150 COL), and yes cleaner too than TiteGroup:

I'm loading 5.2 grains cfe pistol under 124gr RN and am quite happy with it. Seems pretty clean and my rounds go where I want them to go.
It's my go to 9mm powder these days.

I'm going to have to try this powder, titegroup has been staining the outside of my cases black
As the silverfox eluded above this could be sign of too light of a powder charge. This is seen in 45acp a lot as the case isn't expanding to seal the chamber and some blow back occurs. Check you data and see if you can try a slightly higher powder charge. Really is not much harm but dirty cases thou.

I get the 'scorching' on the outside of the cases with 4.2gr of CFEPistol with a Zero 147gr JHP. At that charge it's doing just under 1000fps (so I don't consider it a 'light' load).

I also get it with 6.8gr CFEPistol with Zero 230gr RN (45ACP) moving about 900fps.

Sometimes slower powders can cause scorching (reaches peak pressure later than faster powders, does't seal the chamber as quickly). The internet seems to think it's not really a big deal. *shrugs*

I was loading at the max powder charge in my hornady manual, I'll try to bump it up .2gr

I ran a bunch of tests with Campro 9mm 124g and Titegroup, Winchester WSF, Clays Universal, and CFE Pistol. Titegroup was most accurate (not by much) and WSF and CFE Pistol tied very closely at second. I found CFE to be clean burning with a nice push recoil. The loads varied from 4.8 to 5.4 (Max) and I settled on 5.0g as best for that powder.

I get about the same amount of scorching with 5.2 grains as well. Also find the heavier load not as comfortable/pleasant to shoot. Not sure where to go from here. Main reason I switched to CFE223 Pistol powder was to get a good metering powder in my powder measure. It does that well. Looks like I am not the only person with the scorching problem.
