Howdy folkes. I've been working on developing a load for my .223 Akley Improved. The rifle started out life as a 700P. I Had Mick McPhee do the build with a Krieger 1-8 twist bbl, trued the action, bedded the stock, etc. Its a sweet little rifle and shoots very well, but finding the "honey load" is taking some time.
I'm shooting 75gr Amax bullets and have been playing with both RL-15 and Varget powder. I've been finding the rifle seems to like milder loads than seems typical for the AI chambering. I did a couple ladder tests this week at 270M The tests were the same, and ran from 22.8gr through to 26gr of Varget in .2 gr increments. Both tests showed very consistent results but both showed the rifle shot best in the lower nodes. I'm curious as to why I'm having issues where most guys seem to be finding their sweet spot...
Heres a pic of the tests. I had my gopro camera recording the tests and have labeled the order of shots as best I can. Unfortunately the camera couldnt see what happened in the black and also died before the second test was completed.
