Loading for ruger#1 303 British

random update- i load 40 and 41.5 grains of Varget for a 180 gr Speer hot cor.... Works great.
we loaded those .323 ones swaged down to .3135 or so in 170gr with same charge for same poi.

im parking the reloading for this Ruger for now, as lucked onto a Case of 100x 180gr PPU factory for same price as i could reload for- so it should see me a few years --- look forward to just hunting with those.303 Hind august.jpg
 
I too missed the boat but was able to fill the gap with a Uberti Courtney Stalking rifle in 303B.
I don’t believe the action strength is up to Ruger speed but it is stronger than your typical No1, No4 variants.
I have been happy with IMR 3031, Win 760 and BLC-2 pushing 174/180 gr projectiles with 38.5grs of either listed powders. I haven’t even considered 150gr bullets so I can’t comment but IMO the .303 Brit was designed for 174gr bullets so I stay in those boundaries.
I carried my Uberti this past fall going after elk. Carried well and have since removed scope and installed a Marbles tang sight.

Agree with Claven2, thy should bring these Rugers back for a run.
