I am about to do a bit of load work up and was wondering as to what your experiences were with the following component.

IMR 4064
IMR 3031
IMR 4895
H4895

A crap load of 50 vmax bullets

Thanks for all advice

Don't get frustrared by keyholes. Pay strict attention to bullet weights and double check seating depth. If you are only shooting from one rifle I would NECK SIZE ONLY to avoid the hassles of proper shoulder sizing. I found this a real issue when I was F.L. sizing cases. When it comes to powders, I would stick to the manuals. Varget has given some nice results for me. As far as the components that you mention, I found the 4895 a tad on the slow burn side. I was also playing with light bullets too. I recall 36g , perhaps why I had issues with keyholes! That's all I've got as far as experience with that cartridge. Remember, there's a bunch O'powder igniting behind a wee bullet so I'd be wary of pushing past max-rated loads. Cheers.

I had good results with 4064 and 3031 but settled on H380 as the go to powder for accuracy. Many new powders in use since then but I haven't tried them. My favorite bullet was a 52gr. hp.

I use Benchmark with 55gr VMax's. Gets me 1" groups (sitting on the ground with a bipod. They same way I hunt) and I'm not at all a great shot.

I use IMR 4895 with 52s for a standard load. It's been awhile since I've played with it, but 29.5 grains of 3031 and a 52-53 grain target bullet used to be the test load for the Remington custom shop.its below minimum in most books and isn't fast but man does it shoot in a lot of guns. 4064 was my powder for 75 grainers in a fast twist barrel. I had to give up on H380 because it was too temperature sensitive.

A "keyholing" bullet is not stabilizing for the rifling twist[haywire velocities] or the bore is shot out and is tumbling. Also 50gr Hornady SX out of a buddies .220 Swift never made to the paper.......just a visual puff of dust enroute........Harold

Im a huge fan of the 22-250.. Most Rifles you find will have a 1-14" twist, that being said you will find savage(if my memory Serves me correctly) has a 1-12" twist.. and a ruger american has a 1-10" twist. This being said for the 1-14 and 1-12 rifles 55gr bullets will be your sweet spot.
For 55gr Sierra BK my dads Tikka and my CZ550 Lux would shoot 1/2-3/4" @100yrds groups all day if i did my part with 36.5gr of Varget. THIS IS LISTED MAX!!!!!
For 50gr V Max im currently shooting 38gr of Varget getting 1/2" groups for a 3980fps Average.( THIS IS OVER LISTED MAX!!!!!)
For 40gr V max my load was 38gr of Varget getting 4000fps. it also shot well.

As you an see i Love my Varget but my GO TO poweder was IMR4007SSC until they stopped making it.. I have also tried benchmark, IMR4320, 4895 and others but always go back to varget or 4007SSC
good luck!! and load safe!!!

I had some grief with my 788 formerly shooting bughole groups with 34gr IMR 3031/55sp and Win Super brass.Picked up some Win brass at a gun show......checked case capacity with H2O for weight.identical.Flattened primers like you wouldn't believe.Ordered 100/Lapua brass from Hirsch so will start over from there........Harold

If you can find some varget for those 50 gr vmax
36gr what works in mine and tight groups .
Sometimes hard on yotes if you hit bone .

I had good results with 4064 and 3031 but settled on H380 as the go to powder for accuracy. Many new powders in use since then but I haven't tried them. My favorite bullet was a 52gr. hp.

X2 on that. I've tried many of the "new powders" and still come back to H-380, espically with 52-55grs bullets.

Was given a container of Super Performance and the powder is recommended for the 22-250.
The velocity is higher than I would expect from other powders.
Previously I have used IMR's 48905, 4320, and 4064.

My go to load that worked in a few 22-250 rifles I have owned was 38.6 -39 gn W760 behind a 52gn Sierra HPBT. Shot many 1 hole groups at 100 yds and a few at 300 yds around the size of a dime when there was minimal wind.

Rem 700 Varmint 26”
33.8gr Var get behind 50gr Noslers results in 3 shot 1/2" groups consistently for me. Have not been tempted to try anything else since coming across this combo

I have played around a lot with my old Sako and have had trouble getting small groups. The loads I have had success with are H380 and 50gr V max or BK's. I tried one load last year with (believe it or not RL15) and 50gr Vmax and BK that shot just over an inche at 200 yards. I will be playing with that again very soon. I found it as an accuracy load in a sierra manual for they're 50gr BK.

I have read different threads on here for the 250 and they all favor a different powder. Looks like I am going to have to try some 4895 now....

good luck

My 22-250 powder is Varget. Works well in both of my rifles. 40 gr Ballistic Tip over 38.0 gr Varget, WLR, WW case at 2.352" oal. I picked up a lb of CFE223 today and plan to try it in this cartridge as well as my various .223's. I have 2 x 8 lbs of this stuff but didn't want to crack one open to find that I don't like it. If it works well, I'm all set : )
