loading for the 223

Pet loads are useless for you. A load that drives tacks in one rifle may or may not do so in your rifle. You need to look in your manual for a load and work it up for your rifle. The rifling twist will determine whether or not it will shoot light or heavy bullets better. Then pick a powder for that weight. I've always found whatever powder given for the accuracy load is a good place to start. IMR4198 is given in my old Lyman book for 50 to 55 grain jacketed bullets.
