For those of you who load for the TT-33 do you find it absolutely necessary to crimp? Just curious as I'll be ordering up my equipment shortly(already have the Lee trim gauge on the way)and was wondering if I need to order a crimp die as well. So far it's the dies, trim gauge since I'm converting some of my 223 stock,a 223 trim gauge(for the shell holder) which I need anyway plus a new .309 113gn bullet mold. I don't crimp any of my loads but I've read it's necessary with the 7.62x25. Is this true? Do I need the crimp die? Thanks and any input is greatly appreciated.

If converting 223 brass you will need an inside neck reamer from what I have heard. The lee 223 trim gauge will not fit your factory 7.62x25 brass, its a 4, and my best guess from my autoprime shellholders is you need a 19, the same as 30 luger, mauser, 9x21 or 40s&w. I use a light roll crimp, skipping it can cause feed problems and allow bullet set back causing pressure issues.

Yeah figure may as well get the crimp die for added assurance. The 223 shell holder for the trim gauge will be used for my converted brass as well as my regular 223 brass. Gonna see if I can get away from reaming but of course if the rounds won't chamber I'll have to ream.

Tigger what crimp die you running? Been looking into the the Lee factory crimp die and seems to have an advantage in that it reduces the chance of crushing the tiny neck when crimping.

Totally forgot you can crimp at the seating stage. Since I've never done it with any of my loads it slipped my mind. Thanks for that reminder.

Good to know Ganderite. Now I know I dont have to order the factory crimp die. I'll have factory brass from the commercial ammo I'll pick up when I get my pistol.

Hi all. I was one of those guys in the thread way back, figuring out what works and what doesn't. I used to ream the necks but found with a good chamfer and enough flare, the bullets would seat just fine without AND have enough tension to hold fast. No crimp die was needed...the seating die is enough, just as Ganderite stated.
Here's the thread with info as it developed: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/foru...15-7-62x25mm-from-223-loads?highlight=tokarev
