set up loadmaster again today. indexing seems rough, sometimes will not index without presure on the ram.
primer seater is kinda off center to me.

tried a few rounds, 2/5 had no primer in....

how do I fix that piece of crap? throw away and buy dillon?

Polish/file/smooth the handle where it contacts the indexing lever. Make sure everything under the shellplate is clean.

The primer path must not have any oil or grease on it. You can clean it with a Qtip and alcohol.

There is a brand new revision of the priming system. If you have a new press, it the new priming system should be included.

For people that are all thumbs, and have no patience, pony up and buy a Dillon. If you want more flexibility, and are going to load lots of different calibers, get Hornady.

I have a smooth running LoadMaster and a smoother running Hornady.

Not sure about flexibly, just spent 2 hrs trying to get my bullet feeder to work properly on my LNL. It's far easier to change a Loadmaster than a LNL to a different calibre.

go to Loadmaster forums for help with your press. I also change out my primer feeding system every year, I think it slowly distorts and replacing it resolves a lot of problems. also a can of compressed air is your friend for any press.

.

I don't have the bullet feeder yet. But am keeping the LoadMaster for smaller runs. Once you've got the LM going smoothly, I've found it easy to maintain.

can you clean the primer assembly with brake cleaner?
Maybe, or maybe it will melt the plastic. 99% rubbing alcohol is cheap, available at any pharmacy, and does a good job.

You mentioned missing a lot of primers and that the indexing is "rough". If the shellplate whips around too quickly (perhaps because you gave it some 'oomph' to overcome the rough) the primer arm may not pickup a new primer. It needs to be operated smoothly - with what I have called the "Lee rhythm" - to work well.

do yourself a favor and FORGET the BULLET FEEDER- it's pure JUNK with a capital j-I can hand feed bullets as fast as that thing and the fingers use any excuse they can to break- and they say you shouldn't leve it "loaded"- the fingers will also take a "set" where they won't grip the bullet anymore- mine sits at the back of my closet , in the junk drawer- i'm just too lazy to remove the bracket; and you need the new style seater die with the chamfer to make it work-

i dont use the bullet feeder

Yes just scrap the LM and go out and buy yourself a Dillon. I still have and use lee equipment (not a hater), but since jumping on the blue train, I can say my 550 is simple and easy to maintain, setup and use, and makes hundreds of high quality rounds with little effort.

Just go for it. You will not regret it.

too many choices with dillon..... i feel like i would get a poor mans dillon and I hate that
i want auto indexing, auto case feeder, 9mm and 223...

well, there ARE ways - get the model( not the 550 or 450) that you want first, then add to it- it comes with one caliber less dies- it's the add-ons that cost you money- me, i started a seperate bank account for the thing and contributed a little each week until i got to the price of the thing- and then looked CAREFULLY at each accessory with how can i do without it eye- and you don't need the KRAFT mac and cheese- the store brand is half the price and serves the same- same thing with hamburger- medium or regular instead of the extra lean- get yourself one of k-tel pans so the grease runs off and there's no advantage to lean/xtra-lean. USE COUPONS- shop canadian tire extensively and use c/t money- buy in the off season- pretty soon all you're buying is socks and underwear at retail b/c there's no discount on those;see WHERE this is going- oh, granted, i got a 550 and aside from the case feeder, all there is are caliber "kits" for accessories, but my reloading set-up is blessed with a plethora of colours, mostly red, some blue, green, yellow , orange- etc- it's not just one manufacturer for everything

Throw it in the trash and get a Dillon!

Oh what a wonderfully articulate and helpful comment.

Have you ever used a LoadMaster? Not talking about other Lee equipment, but the LoadMaster the OP is asking about.

BTW, do you drive a Toyota Land Cruiser or Mercedes G wagon? Why not?

Throw it in the trash and get a Dillon!

What a totally, utterly useless comment, worthy only of this...

I stand by my statement, throw it in the trash and buy a Dillon. You will never regret buying quality.

Anything I have bought from lee in the last 55 years has been JUNK! From moulds to dies all are a pos.

There was a post with pics last year of someone who had the entire primer system of his lm blow up shredding his face with plastic schrapnel. Luckily he was wearing glasses or he would now be BLIND! Cheap, dangerous junk!

Any lee junk I am given goes to Goodwill or in the trash.

If you place no value on your time or safety or where you place in a match then fiddle with your lee junk to your hearts' content.

Why don't you check out the equipment mysticplayer was using to load ammo shooting one hole groups at 300 yards. Oh my, he used a cheap Lee press and Lee dies. They must have been defective because they just couldn't have produced those results.
