loads for 30-06 165gr

I get all my load data from Hodgdon's site. They have an excellent load data centre. You just key in the cartridge, bullet weight, powder type and brand and get the min. - max. loads. I trust it for ALL my starting loads.
 
Start with one of the ol stand by powders H4895 or H4350. As for how much check out Hodgon`s web site and go with the starting load and work up. Max load in somebody else`s rifle may not work for you.
 
I use Reloader 19. My loads shoot great in my gun and like a shotgun in my brothers. Thats why a accurate load is not really possible to post let alone somebody putting a 3 for a 8 or some such thing.
 
I am using the Barnes 165 grain HBT on top of 59 grains of reloader 19. So far the faster I push the bullet the more accurate it gets. I am not sure but I am thinking barrel harmonics are throwing my groups out. I get two side by side that the hole makes a elongated oval and the third is 2 inches up and to the left. I am going to try nosler partitions next in 165 grains and see how they shoot. I am shooting a Husqvarna if that helps.

I use a 165 GMX, H4350, win brass, and fed primers for a velocity close to 2900 fps out of a Winchester model 70 for sub MOA groups. Work nicely for me on several deer and a calf moose at 100 yds that it broke both shoulders and kept on going. Hopes that help
 
I just spent the winter working up multiple 165 grain loads for my 30-06. The idea was to try to find a universal load that would allow the interchangeable use of as many bullets as possible so I could do a real world live animal bullet test in Australia this summer. A perfect world would have them printing and tracking together, and the goal wasn't ultimate accuracy or speed but interchangeability.

The magic load worked out rather well, after about 1000 rounds of testing. IMR 4064 was showing real promise until I found out it was going to difficult to find in Oz. Then I shifted gears and went to Varget. 50.5 grains of Varget would shoot with any 165 bullet I could shove in the case. I did tweak things a bit, 51 grains on most of the boat-tails seemed to shoot into the common POI a little more consistantly, as did dropping to 50 grains for the 168 gr TSX. The 165 grain Hornady workhorse load was right in the middle at 50.5 grains.

The end result is that I can take several different bullets and do a direct comparison on several hundred feral pigs and donkeys. Most of the loads will track close enough to the CDS dial to be useable out to 500, and the worst ones will do the same to 400. 300 is a fairly long shot on those ranches unless you go looking for distance opportunities.
 
IMR or H4350 are both great choices in the 30-06 with the 165 grain bullet.
Somewhere between 57 and 60 grains will be a load that works in practically any rifle I
have ever shot it out of. [please do NOT start with a 60 grain load!!]
Another powder that I have had great success with is W760, at around 58 grains.
Norma204, RL19, Vihtavuori N550 or N160, Accurate 2700 or AA4350 also work.
The '06 is a very versatile chambering, and the 165 is a great choice for it.
Expect about 2850-2900 in that 22" tube, using a max working load.

I get 3000fps from 165gr bullet in my Ruger 30-06 with custom 23" long S&L 12" twist barrel with maximum charge of 47-SL (H414) powder but for maximum accuracy I have to settle for 2950fps. Reloader 19 is just as speedy but not as accurate.

Gunrunner8; Which lot of 47-SL are you using? Lot#10 or Lot# 131?
I have both in my possession, but did not mention them because they are unavailable now.
Lot #10 will give higher velocities in the '06 with 165 grain bullets than any other powder I have tried, with the exception of old Norma 205 or newer MRP.
Lot #131 is closer to obsolete W785, so it takes a lot in the case to build velocity, but I have reached 2900 in a 22" tube with it as well.

47-SL lot 10 from Higginson and still I have more than 6lbs left :)
 
59 grains of IMR 4350 works great behind the barnes 165grain TSX for my remington 700, never pushed it higher than that, maybe i will once i get a new barrel if i dont get any pressure signs
