Struff I think this whole salt wood thing is blown out of proportion in my IMHO . I own a dozen Superposed guns some salt some not . The only salt gun that I saw rusted was a friends 20 gauge that got soaked in a rainstorm on a Woodcock hunt and he never took it apart and dried it. I bought the gun cleaned up the action at the stock and sealed the wood and the action. That was 20 years ago and it has been perfect ever since. Enjoy your purchase they make a great field gun as you already know.

Funny I was going to say the same thing. I have seen a few over the years and the ones that people took care of were fine. in fact only even seen one real damaged and the shape that gun was in salt wood was the least of it's issues
Cheers

I agree the two pc shotgun stocks seem to have less issues
I have seen rifle that were so pitted nothing could been done to repair the damage I would glass bead them and reblue them
That being said they were never taken out of the stock and properly cleaned
Once again I’m pleased with the find

Could you please explain Superposed and Saltwood ? Never heard of these
Leavenworth

Someone convinced Browning they could speed up the wood drying process by burying walnut in salt. Needless to say, salt was absorbed into the wood, the wood was put onto guns and the salt then reacted with the metal. IIRC the affected years are something like 1965 to 1972. Double check that. Not all Browning guns in that timeframe got salt wood and not all salt wood guns were ruined by it. For a long time Browning would replace the stock.

Nice score Struff.
