Hi everyone,

Southern Ontario woman here, who is without "mentor" friends around, therefore I am without much shooting experience. I would really like to get into a range for practice and learning, and to gain more comfort so I can head out hunting with a fair amount of confidence (since it's possible I may end up doing a lot of soloing). From what I have looked at, local ranges are not easily accessible. It all seems a bit intimidating, to be honest. There is a wait list of course, but to gain access it becomes kind of confusing. This may seem silly, but I have no idea how this stuff works yet! Can anyone recommend a range in southern ontario (GTA, Barrie, Wellington etc..) that might be a good fit? Any advice would be welcome, I appreciate it!

Welcome aboard!

There is a whole CGN section for newbies, and last time I looked there were several sticky'd posts on mentors, clubs and ranges. Let your fingers do the walking over there. Expect to pay $$$ for a club membership and/or be on a waiting list.

In my experience there are cliques and clutches of shooters who know one discipline. They are great resources but don't know much outside their lanes. You need to find some crowd that knows and understands what you're trying to accomplish. And for that, good luck!

A lot depends on your specific area and shooting interests. Rifle/shotgun/pistol? Any specific competitive disciplines? You probably don't want to be driving hours to a range at the far end of southern Ontario.

Rifle and shotgun to begin with, as it is mainly for hunting purposes. The few areas I placed in brackets were my attempt at keeping it within a fair distance, though I don't mind a longer distance either, since I do travel around, often. Still, central makes the best sense.
