Location for indoor range near GTA?

the only reason why no new ranges are being built is because its a high risk investment and almost cost prohibitive.

to build a 2 floor (1st floor 100 yard rifle and upper floor 25 yard pistol action range x2) is estimated to be between 12-15 million dollars.

to get final approval from the CFO you have to actually build it before it can get final approval (what if they dont?)

you have to heat the air and cool it and some environmental rule now states you cant vent hot exhaust out of a building ( i'm not sure if this is true)

you have to have permanent staff to maintain such a large facility to keep it operational.

property taxes, municipal red tape, provincial red tape, federal red tape etc all add up.


the cheapest range to make is an outdoor with 6-8 25 yard action ranges ( mounds of dirt and some baffles for the 100 yard rifle range) on land outside of the city.

the amount of money invested to build this range would never be repaid back in a reasonable time, you would be looking at least 25 years to pay off that 15 million $ loan to build it. and because we have a sham of a "charter of rights" that could all be a big waste of money with the stroke of Turdeau's pen.
 
Scarborough is part of Toronto...not the GTA...banned.
Mississauga is 9min from downtown and to my knowledge only has one club...which is pistol only.
It would be a gold mine.
 
Anywhere withing 45 mins of Toronto core and no stupid restrictions on calibers of rounds and it'll be a gold mine.

Oh yeah, make sure the initiation fee is not twice the membership either or else Silverdale is close enough.

I really hope someone opens a range in Toronto and doesn't milk the members like Targetsports does with their high membership costs. I would love a rifle range with 200-300 yards even in uptown Toronto. That would be amazing. Also the reason i did not buy an ar15 or a handgun is because i dont want to join a range that is 1 or 2 hours away. I would have to xplain to the CFO why I havent joined a range if i own those guns.
 
Brampton is pretty much a no go, as much as I would love to have one in town I can't see it happening. We had an outdoor range years ago and it was shut down due to people shooting over the berms. Brampton is pretty anti gun, we even have a by-law 48-92 ( http://www.brampton.ca/EN/City-Hall/Bylaws/All Bylaws/firearm-replica.pdf ) making it illegal to display or sell airguns. You will catch the odd airgun being sold at Canadian Tire but they are in violation of the By-Law. Honestly the best bet is to head just north of Brampton up to Caledon, Land is cheaper, and pretty gun friendly. Quick access to anyone located in Brampton, Mississauga, and Vaughan.
 
Some group was trying to set up a range near Vaughan a few years back. But I haven't heard anything about it in a long time.

Not in Ontario. You can own a certain number of restricted firearms without having a range membership. I believe that number right now is 4, but if I'm wrong, I'm sure someone here will correct me soon enough. You should, however, look into this on your own and verify it for yourself. I take it you have an RPAL... what did your CRFSC instructor tell you?

Brampton would be an excellent location, and I certainly hope CanAm would look into it thoroughly, and not just dismiss it based on a CGN post. (no offence... ) If there were some airgun bylaw, it would be primarily aimed at kids, but the bylaw you cited above is about "Replica Firearms", which is no big deal and certainly doesn't make Brampton "anti-gun". Replica guns are already prohibited federally anyway, so this bylaw is basically a pair of suspenders to go along with a belt. I'm sure the range CanAm is proposing would not "manufacture, sell, display" or cater to replica firearms anyway.
 
Georgetown, NW of GTA. Still plenty of room in the north part. No other range within 1/2 hr.
Definitely would have to be indoors only due to municipal bylaws. But it is close to Mississauga/Brampton.

Pearson Airport is in Mississauga, so not Toronto. This would be the best place with a population of 5 million in a 40km radius.
There is a big industrial area, so no problems with the neighbours. Easy access from HWY 401, 427 and 403.

You build it, shooters will show up. GTA is so starved of accessible ranges, that people are driving a couple hours each way to a range.
