Location for indoor range near GTA?

Silverdale seems to be doing ok with their $20 guest fees as it's always busy with visitors, even during the week. Can't understand why others wouldn't jump and do something similar. Especially if they would have space for 300-400 yards. Unless I am mistaken, the closest 300 yard range with open access to visitors is in Ottawa.

2+years waiting lines to get into a club? 600$/year membership fees? There's room for more than one extra shooting range in that area...
Wow brutal... I don't understand how ppl can live in Toronto... then again Ottawa is too big for me and would move to a small town if I could.

Silverdale is a great club, sadly only no indoor range.

Difference is though in the GTA the land needed for outdoor AND getting approval would be extremely difficult. Silverdale is in St. Anns, extremely conservative riding with large property's available so a little different situation. Also the property is affordable compared to GTA.

Wouldnt know where you would be able to put a 400 yeard range in the GTA, afford the land, and get approval for it.

Silverdale is in the Golden Horseshoe. It's a nice place, but 2 hours with traffic to get to from East Toronto, Durham, etc.

Somewhere up north of the GTA would serve the entire GTA, not just Hamilton, Mississauge, Oakville and Niagara. Simcoe / Pefferlaw / York - somewhere up there, etc.

Granted, I am a member of OSGC so I ain't really going anywhere, but just putting my .02 in as an east ender.

Which shows that there is a huge need for another gun club. I know many people who somehow manage the 2 hour drive to Silverdale because they can't find anything closer which is crazy

Why do people continue to talk about an outdoor range when the original post only says INDOOR ?

People just saw gun range and started dreaming about somehow getting a 300 yard outdoor range in Toronto.. which is impossible.

But thank you for putting it back on topic.

Best bang for the buck is on the east side, it's still the cheapest area to own land in the GTA and the population is booming. The addition of the 407 makes it very easy to get to east Oshawa if you don't want to travel the 401.

I'm a member at Oshawa Gun Club but when I was looking for options there were no rifle ranges from Kingston to Barrie to Hamilton that were accepting new members. Anything within 1.5 hours of Toronto will immediately be filled and have a waiting list....

Can-AM, not too long ago there was a nice property along Lake Ontario about 45 minutes to an hour east of Toronto. I believe it was around 75-100 Acres for around a million bucks, this would have been perfect...

CanAm,
Depending on your definition of Near GTA (within 2-3 hours) I might be able to help...100+ Acres with highway access PM me and we can discuss.

2-3 hours?! I am out. I am even too lazy to drive to Brulington from 404 and 401 area.

Can-am, I hope you can find something in Stoufville industrial area.

You guys live in a fantasy land!!!!

I live in Mississauga and I'll be looking to join Silverdale pretty soon. Not at all excited about the commute, but I need a range, and I want it somewhat soon. If a new one opened up anywhere closer, I'd jump at it. Best bet is Brampton, Caledon, Georgetown, Milton.

You guys are taking a lot of abuse to get into the hobby.

My range is 15 minutes from my home, cost is 145$/year. Granted, it's a bit crappy and opening hours aren't that great. I'd pay double to get double the service, but I would never have got into shooting if a 4 hours round trip was required.

FWIW $50 per month seems cheap for a nice indoor facility.

50 bucks eh? Depends on how nice of a facility and how many members and bays. I would agree with Peel being the prime location. There are plenty of abandoned buildings in industrial areas and since there is already a range (only one I know of) it would harder for the region/city to deny permits.

Not to rain on a parade, but 2 to 3 hours isn't "close" to the GTA, IMO. It's in Ontario, but not near the GTA. I can drive way up to the Bruce Peninsula in 3 hours,... just sayin'. ;-)
