Location for indoor range near GTA?

How about Buttonville? Aren't they closing that airport in the next year or two?
It's just north of Toronto and steps from the highway.

It's a long shot as the land is probably slated for row after row of condos. And shooting near a populated area is a touchy subject...

I think rubber backstop = .223 and 12 gauge.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Depends on what kind of rubber we're talking about here.

Your standard Gel-Cor BRM, which is essentially shredded tire side-walls, can stop everything up to .50BMG and it only needs about 3ft of thickness to be repeatable. Good for about 100,000 rnds of 'normal' ammunition per lane as well.

The problem is maintenance: divots develop quickly and need to be raked over, and as far as I know, no range cleaning companies exist in the region that aren't stupid expensive. That can all be avoided with your own equipment, which is a small expense compared to the $4-$6 mil it will cost to build the place... unless you convert an existing building in a quiet industrial area....

Rubber blocks are another matter. I don't think I've seen a conventional range with them... most are either steel ($$$) or BRM.

This woud put the brand new never used Rona building in Bowmanville to good use. It's got to have come way down in price by now it's only been like 7 years since it was built and never repurposed. It's right off the 401 at Waverly Rd and zoned industrial as far as I know.

I took a serious run at this about a year ago. Had the financial backing in place and was ready to go the problem is finding a place that won't stab you in the back once you start building. We were looking in the maple Vaughan area. Just off 400 with a fully indoor complex including a curling rink and a pro store above.

Good luck if you do find a place and need money or partners I can supply Both.

I did up a business model and reviewed pricing and membership structure since it seemed like it would be a hit in the GTA and would be an amazing job. My face just hurt when I finished and realized the large capital needed up front

For now I'll continue to just go to a normal range hah

I love the idea of repurposing these type of buildings. Usually great value to buy/lease

Says who? Toronto and Mississauga already have indoor ranges, they are not well known and we desperately need more.
Go to Google Maps and look at Toronto. Look at the highways and industrial areas that will give you some idea.

No one in Toronto wants to drive 30 minutes north/east/west.

Downsview Park might be a long shot :) but it was the Canadian Military Base.

Speak for yourself. There are many, many people in Toronto, and the GTA, that would happily drive 30 minutes to a new range. (provided the range itself is worth it). A half hour drive is not a big deal.

Travelling to east end and north end of DVP always sooo much easier than to west end and downtown. Hence my vote is for Markham Stoufvile and surroundings.

Have to disagree with you on that. Waaay more highway access going west. 401/403/407/QEW. These are all accessible from the 427 and 410, and just minutes from the 400, all running north/south.

To go east, you've only got the 401 or 407, with only the DVP/404 running north/south. There's just no comparison...
